DESCRIPTION
This document is intended to inform dealers, technicians, parts departments, and customers of a change made to radio
software to support updated Collision Mitigation, Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Blind Spot Monitoring systems. If
replacing the radios on the vehicles described below, the radio either needs to be built after a specific build date or have the
software version verified/updated. If outdated radio software is used on these vehicles, the audible tones for these systems
may not be heard by the driver. The applicable vehicles were all built with the correct radio. This iKNnow article only applies if
replacing the radio for a service event in one of the vehicles listed below.

PARTS IDENTIFICATION
If the vehicle is equipped with feature 08TRM, use the table below to identify the minimum software level for each radio part
number. The numerical value in the software level dictates its version. The last letter dictates which hardware version the
software is compatible with. Example: If part number 4154492C1 is being installed, and the current MCU version is 2061A, it
needs to be updated to 2062A or later. If the radio has a build date later than the starting radio build date listed for that part
number, the software will already be new enough to support vehicles with 08TRM.

Some earlier-built radios were updated before entering the PDCs. If that is the case, the radio will be marked with a blue or
black dot on the radio as shown below.

Blue Marks on Radio Indicating software was updated to support new features.

SOFTWARE CHECK AND UPDATE STEPS
You will need to download the radio software and place the files onto a USB flash drive. Then insert the flash drive into the radio
and update the radio software.

Download radio software to your computer:
1. Radio software ZIP files -(For Trucks click here) (For Bus click here)

The Truck files can only be used on the truck radio part number. The Bus files can only be used on bus radios. Using
the wrong files to update the radio can cause part failure and require radio replacement.
2. Open the .zip folder
3. Extract the folder to your computer desktop. To do this, right-click on the zip file and select “Extract All…”. Keep the default
settings and select “Extract.”
4. Select Desktop and click OK.
5. Once the file is saved. Confirm that the correct number of files is in the folder that was created and opened. There are 3 files
in the bus folder and 4 in the truck folder. See example below:

Move the files to a USB Flash Drive
1. Insert a USB Flash Drive into the computer. The capacity cannot exceed 32 GB, and the file format must be FAT32
2. Drag the files into the root level of the USB Flash Drive. The files should not be in any folders. All MCU files from the
extracted folder can be put on the flash drive at the same time. The radio will automatically pick the right file for your part
number.
3. Confirm the contents look like the following image with files in the USB folder.

4. Remove the USB Flash Drive from the computer.

Install the Flash Drive into the radio and update the software

Programming is a two-part process.
A. Update MCU
B. Update DEC
Steps 1-7: Update the MCU
Steps 8-11: Update the DEC
Steps 12-18: Verify that the MCU and DEC are up to date and complete the repair
1. Turn the key to Accessory = ON. If the radio is not yet powered on, press the radio power button. Make sure the radio is fully
powered on, not in standby mode (ensure audio is playing).

2. Plug the USB Flash Drive into the USB Port on the front of the radio. The screen will display the following sequence: “USB”
→ “READING” → “USB ERROR”. This is okay
3. Press and hold the “RADIO” and “5” buttons at the same time to access the hidden software menu

4. The radio will display its current software version on the screen. If this already matches what is listed above for your
features and part number, then the MCU software does not have to be updated.

5. Turn the knob once to check the DEC version. If this already matches what is listed above for your features and part number,
then the DEC software does not have to be updated.

6. Turn the knob until “UPDATE MCU” is displayed. Press down on the knob, and the screen will now say “LOAD FILE”. After a
few seconds, the radio will automatically start updating.

7. The radio is now updating. Wait for the update to finish. Do not power off the radio or remove the USB Flash Drive. When the
MCU update is complete, the radio will automatically restart.

8. After the restart, press and hold the “RADIO” and “5” buttons at the same time to access the hidden software menu again.

9. Turn the knob to scroll through the options. This time, select “UPDATE DEC”. Press down on the knob to begin the DEC
update.

10. The radio will display “LOAD FILE” → “INITIAL” and then begin updating. The time between “LOAD FILE” and “INITIAL”
may vary.

11. The DEC is now updating. Do not power off the radio or remove the USB Flash Drive. When the DEC update is finished,
the radio will automatically restart.

12. After the restart, confirm the radio has successfully updated the MCU and the DEC to the correct versions. Press and hold
the “RADIO” and “5” buttons at the same time to access the hidden software menu one more time.

13. Once in the hidden software menu, confirm the screen displays the correct MCU version for your part number listed above.

14. Turn the knob once and confirm the screen displays the correct DEC version for your part number listed above.

15. The radio is now updated to the latest software.
16. Turn the key position to OFF.
17. Remove the USB Flash Drive.
18. Software update is complete.
