Customer states:

+ The rear lid does not open as normal - it does not open fully.
OR

+ It closes into the lock at full speed without the power latching system activating.
OR

+ The rear lid does not close as normal and opens again.
Workshop findings:

+ The complaint occurs occasionally and without an event memory entry.

+ Software version 0231 is found at diagnostic address 0046 (convenience system central module).
Technical Background

The control unit detects excessive force and stops the rear lid moving or, in rare cases, the control unit forgets the
exact position of the rear lid.

Service
The measure consists of 2 steps that must both be performed:
1. Check mechanical setting of rear lid:
Please first check the precise fit of the rear lid and the permissible buffer forces (40N - 60N) at the rear lid buffers
and make sure the specifications are complied with. To do so, refer to the information provided under “Adjusting rear
lid” in the Workshop Manual; use spring pressure gauge VAS 895 035 and measurement film VAS 895 037 or
alternatively spring scales in accordance with SOST article on spring pressure gauge VAS 895 035.
2. Initialize rear lid:
It is imperative to reset initialization of the rear lid and then adapt it again. If this is not performed, the
parameters logged in the control unit no longer match the preload of the rear lid and a repeat repair may
be required.
To do so, start diagnosis via Guided Functions and perform the function “0046 - Rear lid electronics - basic
setting”.
It is essential not to hinder or stop the movement of the rear lid under any circumstances. This would
interrupt the initialization process.
A CAUTION
Anti-trapping protection is NOT active for the entire duration of the initialization process. Make sure that
there is no risk of trapping you or other people at any time.
Despite performing this TSB correctly, a repeat repair may be required in certain cases. The rear lid control unit can
forget the position of the rear lid if control unit 0046 is woken up repeatedly. This can be identified by the fact that
the power latching system does not start when the rear lid is in the lower end position, or if the rear lid is not fully
closed. The rear lid is only closed in the first lock position. This is caused by the adapted mobile key (vehicle key on
phone app). The probability of this issue occurring can be reduced by deactivating the mobile key or deactivating the
mobile phone Bluetooth connection to the vehicle overnight. The measure to remedy this issue is expected in Q3
2026.
