Technical Background
Due to quality issues on the bonded joint -U- connecting the reinforcement -P- on the threaded console -T- for the
subframe bolted connection to the longitudinal member outer panel -R-, the bonded joint may come loose. (Figure
1).
This can lead to cracking/creaking noises from the front right and left footwells during load changes or severe
vehicle body torsion.
Depending on the outside temperature, it may only be possible to hear the noise in the right or left footwell after
driving for about 10 to 15 km. The noise can be heard when pulling away and braking, during vehicle body torsion
and in lower gears during load changes. In some cases, the noise is temperature related.

1. For noise analysis and repair work, please proceed as described in the attached file “A4: Cracking_creaking
noises during load changes”. In the attachment, the procedure for analyzing the noises and performing
repairs is illustrated using the right side of the vehicle as an example; the procedure for the left side is similar.
2. When billing, please always attach a photo/video or sound file which clearly shows the complaint to Doc-IT. To
ensure a reference to the vehicle, the photo/video must:
— Include the VIN number and the date.
— Subsequent editing is not permitted.
— The photo/video should be in focus and be taken in sufficient light. A high resolution is not necessary.
If appropriate, please mark the location of the problem so that parts analysis has a clear reference to the complaint.
Please ensure that the photo documentation does not show any people and/or faces, license plates, or customer
data.
