Customer statement / workshop findings
Customer statement
The customer may report an audible ticking noise from the top of the engine, low oil pressure warnings / MIL
on the Driver Information Panel, and/or misfiring during engine operation.
Workshop Findings
Customer findings are verified in the workshop. The following symptoms may be present:
•
Audible ticking noise from the valvetrain area.
•
Low oil pressure warnings (intermittent).
•
Fine metal particles visible in the oil filter and/or large metal debris found in the engine oil sump.
The following misfire DTC may be stored in the engine electronics (diagnostic address 0001):
•
DTC P030000 – Random Misfire Detected
Technical background
Wear of the rocker arm roller bearings can cause incorrect valve operation, producing a distinctive ticking
noise. Unstable valve control may trigger misfires and can cause hydraulic lifters to operate out of their
correct range, leading to momentary reductions in oil pressure that may display as warnings. Progressive
mechanical wear may release fine metal particles into the oil filter and larger debris into the sump, indicating
valvetrain deterioration.
Refer to the ‘Measure’ Section and carry out all steps to completion.

Not applicable, the service bulletin is investigative/diagnostic only.
Measure
WARNING
ALWAYS renew the oil filter element when draining and filling with new engine oil. NEVER reuse engine
oil. Suitably blank all disconnected electrical connectors, electrical connections and pipe work to prevent
the ingress of dirt and moisture.
CAUTION
Before commencing work on and around the engine, ensure that it has cooled sufficiently, failure to do so
may cause injury to personnel. Avoid prolonged and repeated contact with oils and fluids etc. Always
protect the skin with impervious gloves. Always wear suitable eye protection.
NOTICE
Within this procedure there are single use items which must be replaced and not reused. Ensure that new
replacements are available prior to starting this procedure. Also ensure all fasteners are torqued to
specification.
NOTICE
Follow all additional steps, associated operations and warnings within ElsaPro for V8 engine removal and
installation as required.
Record Evidence
Record a short video clearly capturing the ticking or clicking noise.
Determine the applicable diagnostic scenario:
Scenario 1 – Ticking Noise Accompanied by Low Oil Pressure / Misfire
•
Record a video of the noise and the low pressure indication.
•
Proceed directly to Step 1.
Scenario 2 – Ticking Noise With No Low Oil Pressure / Misfire
Record a video of the reported noise.
Raise a Full Technical DISS and include the following information:
•
Confirm the vehicle has full Service history, carried out at the correct time/mileage interval.
•
Whether the vehicle has been serviced within the last 12 months.
•
Oil specification and quantity used at the most recent service.
•
Confirmation that no recent service or repair work could be related.
•
Identify whether the noise originates from the upper or lower area of the engine assembly.
Await Bentley
Product Support instruction before proceeding.
Dispose of collected engine oil according to local environmental regulations. Refer to ElsaPro → Rep. Gr. 00

1. Inspect Oil Sump
Remove the oil sump (bottom section) and inspect for large metal debris.
Refer to ElsaPro → Rep. Gr. 17 – Sump (Bottom Section) – To Remove and Fit
Document all findings with photos and/or video.
Dispose of collected engine oil according to local environmental regulations. Refer to ElsaPro → Rep. Gr. 00
2. Cam Cover & Valvetrain Inspection (If Debris Is Present)
NOTICE
Raise a Full Technical DISS for approval by the Powertrain TM before continuing.
Once authorised, remove both cam covers and inspect rocker arms, roller bearings, and valvetrain for visible
wear/damage as shown in figure 2.
Refer to ElsaPro → Rep. Gr. 15 – Cylinder Head Cover – To Remove
•
Document findings with photos and/or video.
•
Reference Service Bulletin 2081085 within the DISS.

3.Submit Evidence to Technical DISS
Attach all supporting documentation to a Technical DISS for review by Bentley Product Support, including:
•
Videos (noise and/or low oil pressure)
•
Photos of oil contamination
•
Sump debris photos/videos
•
Valvetrain inspection findings (if applicable)
•
Reference completion of Service Bulletin 2081085 in the DISS submission.
