SITUATION
Customers might report that washer fluid is leaking from the lower reservoir area, especially around the
washer fluid pumps.

CAUSE
The top rubber ring on the washer pump’s
filter may be torn.
This can occur when the pump’s filter is
placed first on the washer fluid pump before
being installed in the reservoir.
Such leaks can result in fluid loss and may
affect the proper functioning of the washer
system.

CORRECTION
Replace the washer pump strainer(s) that are leaking with the updated part (61 66 5 B83 629).
Note: P/N 61 66 5 B83 629 is to be used in place of the ETK/AIR P/N 61 66 5 A48 643.

PROCEDURE
For this issue, proceed as follows.
1. Inspect for leakage around the washer fluid pump grommets by looking for washer fluid residue staining.
2. If leakage is found, install a new updated pump strainer(s) following REP - Remove and install/replace windshield washer
pump 61 71 100 | REP-REP-P-6171100.
3. Note that the pump filter(s) must be inserted into the washer fluid reservoir first.

4. First, install the updated (blue) pump strainer(s) into the windshield washer fluid reservoir. Next, insert the washer
fluid pump into the rubber grommet.
5. After replacing the pump strainer(s), verify the
pump’s final position below the Z-rib (shown by
arrow in the left portion of image).

Important Note: Windshield washer fluid is an identified source of volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
When emitted into the atmosphere through evaporation, it can cause poor air quality. Certain states and
states’ regions regulate the allowable vehicle washer fluid solution mix that can be used. Please adhere to
the regulation that applies to your center.
