SITUATION
The customer brings vehicle in with one or both of the second row 60/40 split seats in the folded position.
The seat does not respond to any requests from the second seat row seat switch button(s).

CAUSE
During comfort entry (easy entry) to the third-row seating, pressure is applied manually while the rear seat
backrest of the second row of seats is folded down.
OR
The rear seat backrest of the second row is already folded down, and pressure is applied to it.
OR
One of the second seat row manual release cables has been actuated, and the seat is now in an in-between
position.

Seat Manual Release 1
The second row 60/40 seat can be manually
released in case of electrical failure to access
the third-row seats.
This is located at the outer pivot point on each
side of the 2nd row seat.

Seat Manual Release 2
The seat release (red) is for the third-row
passenger to actuate- folding the second-seat
row 60/40 backrest- to allow occupants to exit
the vehicle in case of electrical failure.

CORRECTION
Initialize the seat.
If initialization does not restore operation, check the microswitch status using ISTA.

If the seat backrest microswitch does not read closed with the seat backrest folded, press the rear seat
backrest down with force until it engages correctly.

PROCEDURE
To address this issue, proceed as follows:
1. Perform a seat initialization.
1a. Yes, initialization worked. Reassess the vehicle and hand it back to the customer.
Or:
1b. No, initialization did not work or was aborted, continue with step 2.
Note: There may be seat module-specific “No seat adjustment because of engine start conditions” faults
stored.
2. Read out the status of the second seat row microswitch using the diagnosis system.
To do this, use the path below.
Body --> Seat adjustment --> Seat adjustment driver's side/passenger's side rear --> Buttons and switches
2a. No, the microswitch is open.
Continue with step 3.
Or:
2b. Yes, the microswitch is closed.
Continue diagnosis.
3. Press the folded rear seat backrest
down with force until it engages correctly.
This also engages the microswitch to
indicate to the vehicle electronics that the
seat is now in the folded position.
Then check whether the electrical
adjustment is working, and reassess the
vehicle.

NOTE: The seat does not need to be
removed from the vehicle to perform this
repair.
