Action: For vehicles that meet all of the criteria in the Issue and Model statements, follow the Service Procedure to
inspect the PCV system and reprogram the PCM to the latest software level via FDRS.

Service Procedure
1. Perform a visual inspection of the PCV system. For F150 vehicles, refer to the WSM, Section 303-08 Engine
Emission Control > Diagnosis and Testing > Crankcase Ventilation > Pinpoint Test HG > Step HG2. For Transit
vehicles, refer to the WSM, Section 303-08A Engine Emission Control > Diagnosis and Testing > Crankcase
Ventilation > Pinpoint Test A > Step A2. Is a concern present with the PCV system based on the visual inspection?
1. Yes - repair as necessary outside of this article. Proceed to Step 2.
2. No - proceed to Step 2.
NOTE: Modifications or aftermarket components added to the PCV and or air intake systems installed on the
vehicle can cause inaccurate diagnostic results. Refer to Section 3 of the Warranty and Policy Manual for
warranty coverages.
2. For non-hybrid vehicles equipped with 3.5L EcoBoost and 5.2L engines, reprogram the PCM using the latest
software level of the FDRS scan tool.
3. For hybrid vehicles equipped with 3.5L PowerBoost engines, reprogram the PCM using the latest software level of
the FDRS scan tool. Follow all on-screen instructions carefully to complete all required coordinated module
software update(s), including:
• SOBDMC
• ABS
• BECM
NOTE: Advise the customer this vehicle is equipped with an adaptive transmission shift strategy which
allows the vehicle's computer to learn the transmission's unique parameters and improve shift quality. When
the adaptive strategy is reset, the computer will begin a relearning process. This relearning process may
result in firmer than normal upshifts and downshifts for several days.
