STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION FROM COOLING FAN OPERATION

This TSB supersedes 25-EE-001H to update the Group to Engine Mechanical, the cooling fan
part number in Parts Information (page 2), the op code in Warranty Information (page 3), and to
modify the Service Procedure to specify replacement of the cooling fan blade, instead of the
entire assembly.

 IMPORTANT
This field action requires justification in the form of a customer concern, and a confirmed case for
the related symptom outlined in the TSB, prior to any repair work. If justification requirements are
not met, any submitted claims are subject to debit. 5 / 60,000 New Vehicle Limited Warranty
applies. See Warranty Information section for more details.
Description: Some Elantra (CN7) vehicles may exhibit vibration in the steering wheel when the cooling
fan is operated at high speed. Follow the service procedure in this TSB to inspect and replace the
engine cooling fan if this vibration is present.

ignition ON.

Select Actuation Test (A).

Select Fan Motor Control-High Speed (C)
and actuate the fan.

While cooling fan is operating at high speed,
place your hand on the steering wheel in the
location indicated (D) and inspect for
excessive vibration.
•

If NO excessive vibration is felt, this
TSB does NOT apply. Service
procedure is complete.

•

If an excessive amount of vibration is
felt, proceed to the Engine Cooling
Fan Replacement procedure.

core support leaving the upper engine coolant
radiator hoses intact.

Using a bungee cord or equivalent, secure the
coolant filler neck (G) away from the cooling
fan.

Remove the cooling fan (H) from the radiator.

Carefully remove the cooling fan
assembly from the vehicle. Damage may
occur to the radiator assembly if
excessive force is used.

Drain the coolant from the overflow tank
located on the original cooling fan assembly.

Remove the original cooling fan blade from the
cooling fan assembly and replace it with the
new part.
Tighten the 3 fasteners (I) to the
specifications below.

Using the STUI camera function, take a
photo of the mold date stamp on the
original cooling fan blade.
Upload the photo to STUI.
NOTE: If the STUI camera function is
NOT used, write the last 6 digits of the
VIN and the date of repair on a piece of
paper to include in the photo.

Reinstall all components in reverse order of
the removal process.

12.

Replenish the coolant overflow tank with
antifreeze to the ‘F’ line.

Information

Each vehicle will require approximately
10 oz. of Pink Coolant and 10 oz. of
diluted/filtered water when replenishing the
new coolant overflow tank.
13.

Start the vehicle and verify the excessive
vibration is NO longer present.

14.

The service procedure is now complete.
