WARNING: Failure to use shutdown procedure can result in unexpected
hazard(s). Death or serious injury could result due to entanglement, crushing,
cutting, or other hazardous contact. Follow shutdown procedure after
operating, before performing any service or maintenance, and before
transporting.
Shutdown procedures:
BC1000XL:
NOTICE: For your safety and the safety of others, use the shutdown procedure before working on the
machine for any reason, including servicing, cleaning, unclogging, inspecting, or transporting the chipper.
A variation of this procedure may be used if so instructed within this manual, or if an emergency requires it.
1. Return upper feed control bar to top stop position.
2. Slow the engine speed to low idle.
NOTICE: Whenever practical and safe, allow engine to idle for one to
five minutes before shutting down after operating at full power. Consult
machine’s engine manual for details.
3. Wait for the cutter drum too slow.
4. Place cutter engage lever in the disengaged position.
5. Turn ignition key to off position.
6. Wait for the cutter drum and belt to stop.
NOTICE: Check cutter drum rotation by looking at the end of the
shaft (1) on the left side of the cutter wheel housing. The cutter drum
will continue to turn for a short time after the engine has stopped.

Perform the following steps to ensure no ground material remains to impede subsequent mill/drum start-up.
1. Ensure all material on infeed conveyor has been ground.
2. Shut off Auto Feed.
3. Disengage mill/drum and wait for engine to reach idle.
Microprocessor will automatically reduce engine speed to idle
before clutch will disengage.
1
4. Wait for mill/drum rotation to stop. Confirm mill/drum has
stopped completely using display work screen. Indicator (1) on
display will turn gray when rotation has stopped. Indicator (1) will be shown in green anytime mill/drum
speed is greater than zero.
5. When mill/drum has come to a complete stop and all ground material has been discharged, shut off
discharge conveyor.
6. If remote control was in use, shut off remote.
NOTICE: Whenever practical and safe, allow engine to idle for one to five minutes
before shutting down after operating at full power. Please consult Machine’s Engine
Manual for details.
2
7. Shut off engine and remove key.
8. Ensure DEF purge light (2) is off 90 seconds (2a) before moving battery
disconnect switch (3) to off.

5. Wait for mill/drum rotation to stop. Indicator light on display will go
out when rotation has stopped. Look at main mill/drum bearings
behind shield (1) to confirm mill/drum has stopped.
6. In shingle grinding application, continue to run water system for five minutes after all ground product is
discharged to cool any remaining material to prevent gluing. This ensures the belt does not stick to any
heated material after shutdown. Turn water valve off.
Refer to "Dust Suppression - Water Controls (Shingle Grinding Dust Control Option)."
7. When mill/drum has come to a complete stop and all ground material has been discharged, shut off
conveyor.
8. Shut off engine and remove key.
NOTICE: Move battery disconnect switch to off at the end of the workday.
9. Whenever practical and consistent with good safety practice, run engine without load for a few minutes
before shutting it off. This allows engine temperatures to decrease and equalize, which will increase
engine life and prevent turbocharger damage.
Unless indicated, new parts from kit have callouts with numbers. Callouts with letters indicate
