Customer Complaint/Technician Observation: Customer complains of an incorrect
low washer fluid level when it is not.
Discussion: Analysis of returned parts has shown many fluid level sensors are being
returned with no issues found when inspected and tested. This document may help
with additional repair information and avoid over repair. Use this information in addition
to any fluid level sensor diagnostic steps.
1. Duplicate and verify the customer complaint
2. Using wiTECH, scan for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). Follow any active DTC
code diagnostics first before moving on to the next steps if the concern is not
resolved.
3. Drain the washer reservoir. Refer to Service Library for washer reservoir and
sensor removal. Remove and inspect the fluid level sensor to confirm if any
contamination or damage is observed on the sensor or if it’s missing the float.
Replace the sensor if damage is present. If contaminated, using a soft cloth wipe
the sensor clean and flush the reservoir. Refill with fresh clean washer solvent. If

contamination was found, discuss with the owner. If condition persists, continue
to next step.
4. With a multimeter check if the circuit of the sensor is okay, this by connecting the
terminals to the sensor, in the multimeter select the option for continuity and then
putting the sensor upside down so the float doesn’t contact with the sensor as
shown in the picture
5. Once it’s in upside down position the multimeter should show an open circuit,
then turn around the sensor so the float touches completely the sensor, once it’s
touching it should show continuity
6. If continuity is being shown in the multimeter install again the sensor into the
washer bottle and refill the reservoir with standard washer fluid, check if the issue
was solved
7. If the issue continues replace the fluid level sensor
