Repair Bulletin: This repair bulletin provides instructions on addressing a possible customer concern regarding the operation of
Tesla vehicles. These instructions should only be performed by trained professionals.

Condition
On some Cybertruck vehicles, the adhesive in top edge and/or center reinforcement bracket of the tailgate might
delaminate, which may cause noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH).

Correction
Inspect the vehicle for symptoms related to the condition. If symptoms are present, rework or replace the tailgate
assembly.

Procedure
WARNING: The edges on the interior of the tailgate assembly can be very sharp. Make sure to wear appropriate
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as cut-resistant gloves when working on or around the interior of the
tailgate.
1. Inspect the tailgate top edge and center reinforcement bracket area for delamination (Figures 1 and 2).

a. Press on the top edge of the tailgate and check for separation along the tailgate top applique seam
(Figure 3).

b. Press on the center of the tailgate and check for any panel flex (Figure 4).

If the top edge of the tailgate separates at the tailgate top applique seam, or the center of the tailgate
flexes when pressed, continue to the next step to rework the tailgate.

•

If the top edge of the tailgate does not separate at the tailgate top applique seam, and the center of the
tailgate does not flex when pressed, the tailgate assembly does not require a rework. Discontinue this
procedure and use Correction Code S012510006.

2. Open the LH front door and lower the LH front window.
3. Open the tailgate and tonneau cover.
4. Position a support stand underneath the top edge of the tailgate as shown in Figures 5 and 6.

5. Remove the tailgate inner cover (refer to Service Manual procedure 1215125031).
6. Remove the tailgate lamp (refer to Service Manual procedure 1740115061).
7. Remove the LH and RH tailgate cinching latches (refer to Service Manual procedure 1133116041).
8. Remove the tailgate manual release cables (refer to Service Manual procedure 1120122081).
9. Remove the tailgate harness (refer to Service Manual procedure 1710095011).
10. Inspect the tailgate center reinforcement bracket for a 1-piece or 2-piece design (Figures 7 and 8).

If the tailgate has a 1-piece center reinforcement bracket (Figure 7), continue to the next step to rework the
tailgate.

•

If the tailgate has a 2-piece design center reinforcement bracket (Figure 8), replace the tailgate with a new
part. Inspect the new tailgate (step 1 in this procedure) to determine if it requires rework.
o

If the new tailgate requires rework, continue to the next step.

o

If the new tailgate does not require rework, install all components that were removed for access onto
the new tailgate, install the new tailgate assembly onto the vehicle, and then discontinue this
procedure and use Correction Code S042510006.

11. Use a scraper, razor blade, and wire brush to remove the old adhesive from the top edge and center
reinforcement bracket where delamination was observed (Figures 9–12).
WARNING: The edges on the interior of the tailgate assembly can be very sharp. Make sure to wear
appropriate PPE such as cut-resistant gloves when working on or around the interior of the tailgate assembly.
NOTE: Use a heat gun to heat the adhesive to aid in removal.

12. Vacuum and wipe off any remaining adhesive debris, and then use IPA wipes to clean the tailgate surface in
preparation for new adhesive (Figures 13 and 14). Allow the IPA 1 minute to dry.

13. Apply new adhesive along the edges where the center reinforcement bracket meets the tailgate (Figures 15–18).
If no delamination was observed in the center reinforcement bracket, skip to the next step.
NOTE: Apply slight pressure to the applicator to force adhesive in between the bracket and tailgate.

14. Apply new adhesive to the top edge of the tailgate (Figures 19 and 20), and then use a trim tool to press the
adhesive along the top edge.

15. Use IPA wipes to clean the exterior surface of the top edge of the tailgate (Figure 21).

16. With the tailgate assembly supported, place 4 ballasts on top of the assembly and allow 1 hour for the adhesive to
dry (Figure 22).
NOTE: Refer to Figure 22 for the position of the ballasts.

17. Install all components that were removed for access (refer to Service Manual procedure 1010025012).
