Issue: Some of the vehicles listed in the Model statement above may exhibit an illuminated MIL with DTCs P0301P0306, P0201-P0206 and/or various other powertrain DTCs stored in the PCM. This may be due to the engine
harness contacting the hose crimp end or spring clamp tangs on the exhaust heat exchanger heater hose assembly.
Action: For vehicles that meet all of the criteria in the Issue and Model statements, follow the Service Procedure to
inspect/rotate the exhaust heat exchanger heater hose clamp if required, repair damaged circuits as necessary and
install protective shielding.

Service Procedure
1. Disconnect the PCM electrical connectors to allow access for inspection and repair. Refer to WSM, Section 303-14
Electronic Engine Controls - 3.5L V6 PowerBoost > Removal and Installation > Powertrain Control Module (PCM)

Removal, Steps 1-5.
2. Is this a 2021-2022 F-150?
(1). Yes - proceed to Step 5.
(2). No - proceed to Step 3.
3. Is this a 2023-2025 F-150 built on or before 14-Apr-2025?
(1). Yes - proceed to Step 4.
(2). No - this article does not apply. Refer to the WSM for normal diagnostics.
4. Locate the exhaust heat exchanger heater hose assembly spring clamp under the hood near the rear of the engine
beneath the PCM. Refer to the WSM, Section 303-03C > Description and Operation > Component Location and
Figure 1. Observe the orientation of the spring clamp. Are the heater hose clamp tangs pointed toward and/or
contacting the 12A581B engine harness? (Figure 1)

(1). Yes - rotate the hose clamp 180 degrees so that the tangs are orientated away from the harness. (Figure 2)
Proceed to Step 5.

(2). No - proceed to Step 5.
5. Using a shield protector, wrap the hose with the shielding centered over the hose clamp or hose crimp end with the
opening of the shield protector facing the clamp tangs. Secure in place using a cable tie at each end. (Figure 3)

6. Inspect the engine harness for damage such as exposed internal wiring from hose clamp contact. Repair any
affected wires and loom per Cell 005 of the Wiring Diagram.
7. Wrap the engine harness (12A581) using a shield protector centered over the engine harness to hose clamp
contact area with the opening of the shield protector facing downward. Secure the shield protector in place with
Coroplast Electrical Wire Harness tape. (Figure 3)
8. Remove the 2 high voltage harness retainer pins from the mounting brackets. (Figure 4)

9. Wrap the high voltage harness (14289) using a shield protector centered over where it contacts the engine
harness (12A581) with opening of the shield protector facing the harness retainer pins. Secure the shield protector
in place using Coroplast Electrical Wire Harness Tape.(Figure 5)

10. Re-install the PCM electrical connectors. Refer to WSM, Section 303-14 Electronic Engine Controls > Removal
and Installation > Powertrain Control Module (PCM) Installation, Step 1.
11. Clear DTCs using the FDRS scan tool.
