This bulletin applies to any repair that requires replacement of the air conditioning compressor.

Technical Background
NOTICE
Any replacement of A/C compressors - regardless of the reason for failure - must include an ODIS GFF
cooling performance test plan (Function Test Log version) of the A/C system with documentation of the
recovered refrigerant volume performed and provided with the warranty claim.
•

ODIS GFF cooling performance test plan.

•

Print out of the recovered refrigerant volume.

•

Print out of the flush procedure.

NOTICE
See Repair group 87 Air Conditioning, Refrigerant Servicing, “Refrigerant Circuit, Cleaning” in Elsa to
determine if cleaning of the refrigerant circuit is necessary. All documentation is mandatory and without

exception. The documents should be submitted through the GFF paperless and WISE as these
documents are exclusively for internal use and reimbursement. See warranty section for more information
on uploading information in WISE.

Service
1. Before replacing the A/C compressor perform the ODIS A/C Performance Test.

NOTICE
The A/C performance test is located in different locations and may be titled differently for different vehicle
car lines. Pictures below are examples only.

NOTICE
If the HV system is disabled the cooling performance test cannot be performed and separate diagnosis is
required. The HV AC compressor must have a GFF diagnosis log with completed test plans of all
compressor related faults before replacing the HV AC compressor.

•

Select Guided Functions from 08 A/C heating electrical control module.

•

Select Check cooling performance from the Guided functions menu and select perform (Figure 1).

Select the Test Plan tab from 08 A/C heating electrical control module.

•

Select self-test and locate the Check cooling performance test under the following sub menus.

•

Passat: Body/ Heating Ventilation-Air Conditioning/01 Systems Capable of self-diagnosis/08 Air
Conditioning-Heating Electronics/08 Subsystems marginal condition.

2. Follow prompts and complete the test plan.
3. Test result next steps,
•

If A/C performance test returns with no malfunctions, then no repairs are needed. The system is
operating properly.

•

If A/C performance test returns a malfunction, perform diagnosis and repair the system as needed.

Warranty

NOTICE
Claim the time units accumulated from the GFF function test. Time units not to exceed a maximum of 100
TU. All documentation is mandatory and without exception and should be submitted through the GFF

paperless and WISE for reimbursement. For information on uploading documents and pictures in WISE,
