This bulletin provides information to replace the transaxle assembly and upgrade the Hybrid Control Unit
Low-Voltage DC Converter (HCULDC) software on some 2022-2024MY Sorento Plug-In Hybrid (MQ4 PHEV)
vehicles equipped with a 1.6L T-GDI engine and All-Wheel Drive (AWD), produced from June 29, 2021 through
January 10, 2024. Some vehicles may experience an illuminated Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) with DTC
P0C4E00 stored, accompanied by a rough transition when the vehicle switches between EV and HEV motive
power. Follow the procedure outlined in this publication to replace the transaxle assembly and upgrade the
HCULDC system software for the applicable vehicle exhibiting an MIL 'ON' with DTC P0C4E00 stored.

Replacement Procedure:
IMPORTANT
A Vehicle Diagnosis Number (VDN) must be created prior to replacement of the transaxle assembly.
If a VDN is not created, Parts Ordering and Warranty claim submission issues WILL occur.
1.
Perform the ‘High Voltage Shut-Off Procedure’
by referring to “Body Electrical System → High
Voltage Shut-Off Procedures → High Voltage
Shut-Off Procedures (Steps 1-4)” in the
applicable Shop Manual on KGIS.
2.
Replace the Automatic Transaxle Assembly (A)
by referring to “Automatic Transaxle System →
Automatic

procedures” in the applicable Shop Manual on
KGIS.
Note: AWD (also referred to as 4WD)
3.
Reinstall all removed parts in reverse order of removal.
4.
Proceed to the ‘ECU Upgrade Procedure’ on page 3.

ECU Upgrade Procedure:
To correct this condition, the ECU should be reprogrammed using the KDS
download, as described in this bulletin.

733.MQ4 PHEV HCULDC Operation Logic Improvement
NOTICE
•
Confirm a fully charged battery (12.3 volts or higher is necessary) is used or utilize a fully
charged jump starter box connected to the battery.
•
Ensure the KDS GDS is sufficiently charged at 60% or higher prior to reflash.
•
All ECU upgrades must be performed with the ignition set to the ‘ON’ position unless otherwise
stated.
•
Damaged VCI II units should not be used and promptly replaced.
•
Be careful not to disconnect the VCI-II connected to the vehicle during the ECU upgrade
procedure.
•
DO NOT start the engine during ECU upgrade.
•
DO NOT turn the ignition key ‘OFF’ or interrupt the power supply during ECU upgrade.
•
When the ECU upgrade is completed, turn the ignition ‘OFF’ and wait 10 seconds before
starting the engine.
•
ONLY use approved ECU upgrade software designated for the correct application.
Connect the negative (-) terminal to the battery as shown below.

The required software must be installed by selecting
the ‘Auto Mode’ ECU Upgrade option.
Note: In some case, the ‘Manual Mode’ installation
option may be required ONLY if the ‘Auto Mode’
function fails or is otherwise noted above.
NOTICE
If the automatic upgrade fails, turn the ignition ‘OFF’ for about 10 seconds then place it back in the
‘ON’ position to reset the control unit BEFORE performing the manual upgrade.
