Condition

Customer states:

There is no customer statement; this is discovered during regular maintenance or other service work.
Workshop findings:

Problems when reading the CAL ID/CVN of the hybrid battery. Communication between the scan tool and the
gateway may be interrupted during the PVE(J)(1) test. The CAL ID/CVN may not be provided.

Technical Background
Software issue in diagnostic interface control unit (DA0019).

Analyses of Q5 PHEV production vehicles have shown that the OBD PVE tests sometimes fail. The response from
the high-voltage battery sometimes cannot be evaluated because the sequence of messages is not OK. The
gateway interchanges the responses when there are segmented messages for the CAL ID of the high-voltage
battery (BECM). All other responses are routed correctly.

Production Solution
No production change (EOP week 15/25)

Service

Applies to vehicles with high-voltage components:

To prevent the high-voltage battery from charging during the software update, the high-voltage charging cable on
vehicles with high-voltage components must be unplugged BEFORE the SVM code is entered.

Please note that charging the high-voltage battery during a software update can cause damage to the high-voltage
components.

Update the gateway to service software SW0052 in the workshop (new part number 80C.907.468.S).

Note:

The software for the diagnostic interface (DA0019) must be updated on this vehicle. Please observe the information
and instructions under “Customer information” with regard to this.

Before carrying out the measure, check the software version of the control unit for information electronics
J533 (0019). If it is version 0042, 0043 or 3093, continue with this TPI.

Please update the data bus diagnostic interface J533 (diagnostic address 0019) via SVM. To enter the SVM code,
use “Flash” mode on the ODIS tester.

Use the function “SVM - Authorized Multiple Code Entry”. The new test program for software updates is included
in ODIS software.

Note: The vehicle uses acoustic signals and flashing lights to indicate when user input is required during and at the
end of the test program.

Use the function “SVM — Multiple authorised code inputs” in “Flash” mode.

CAUTION: the following SVM code must be input exactly as written below (incl. comma and without space; copying
and pasting is recommended):
ZGDOIP,19A032
Follow the instructions on the ODIS tester.

After the update has been completed, it is absolutely necessary to unplug the diagnostic connector and the charger
from the vehicle.

Then start the engine/motor and let it run for a few minutes, then lock the vehicle and wait for five minutes.

Once you have done this, you can finish the diagnostic procedure via ODIS so that the event memory entries
created during the flashing procedure can be deleted.

Additional Information

The software must be updated on a control unit in this vehicle, or the software must be updated on several control
units in this vehicle to ensure they function correctly in conjunction with the other control units in the vehicle. Please
inform the customer about the software update in question and ask whether they or other third parties have modified
the software (e.g. tuning or retrofitting involving modifications to the vehicle’s software). Please inform the customer
that this software update may neutralize previous modifications to the vehicle’s software performed either by the
customer or other third parties.

If the customer declines the software update, please inform them that this could lead to issues or restrictions with
the use of the vehicle or individual components.

Make a note to this effect on the order before it is signed by the customer. Include this information in the customer
file.

Manual for fasteners, bolts, nuts, and screws that require replacement during the repair.
