SITUATION
The headliner light partially/does not
illuminate.
Note: This bulletin applies for G05 vehicles
that have not had any parts replaced
regarding the complaint above.
Fault Code:
8044FC – Light sources on LIN bus 2
for interior lights: Number of defective
light sources

CAUSE
Ambient lighting not “addressed” (lighting signals not fully sent to the lights themselves).

CORRECTION
Readdress the ambient lighting.

PROCEDURE
Before proceeding with performing following procedure and submitting a claim, review the vehicle’s Repair
History (Claims) section located at the bottom of the Warranty Vehicle Inquiry (WVI) to confirm that a prior
repair claim related to the headliner lighting had not already been submitted and accepted.
Please also consider and eliminate the possibility that a required prior headliner lighting-related repair may
have been performed as, or in conjunction with, an insurance/customer pay type of repair.
1. Verify the customer’s concern.
2. Connect an approved BMW battery charger to the vehicle.
3. Connect the vehicle to ISTA and perform a vehicle short test.
4. Read fault codes from the vehicle.

Note: If the ambient lighting does not fully illuminate, continue with diagnosis.

00 00 006, or exclude them (including 61 21 528) when the Vehicle Test is included in another repair.
Work time labor operation codes 61 00 006, 00 58 500, and 63 99 000 are not considered Main labor operations.

To obtain the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance information from the BMW Group AIR application
resource, start by entering the Chassis Number (last seven (7) characters of the VIN), and click on the
“Search” icon. If the “Vehicle Selection” window displays two or more model possible vehicle choices, select
the applicable Model, or enter the full VIN (17 characters) instead to proceed. Click on the “Flat Rate Units”
button and enter a flat rate labor operation code number “without spaces” in the field to the right, click on the
“Search” icon to display the corresponding listing of “Flat rate unit group details” that are available and their
