2.0 Fuel Tank Mounting Hardware

Purpose:

This bulletin provides guidance on a new torque procedure for securing the fuel tank to prevent tank rotation.

Notice:

• Read and understand bulletin in its entirety before performing this procedure.
• All procedures outlined in the bulletin must be performed by skilled service personnel. Refer to the product
service manual for descriptions of maintenance procedures.

Lockout/Tagout procedure, follow OSHA
1910.147 and 1910.146 Confined Space as
appropriate.

Procedure

Lockout/Tagout

1. Park vehicle on a flat level surface, block truck tires, and perform your company’s Lockout/Tagout procedure.
If your company does not have a Lockout/Tagout procedure, follow OSHA 1910.147 and 1910.146 Confined
Space as appropriate.
2. The vehicle’s BATTERY DISCONNECT switch is located on the left-hand side of the battery box. Use the
battery disconnect switch when performing any maintenance so the vehicle cannot accidentally be started.
a. Turn the battery disconnect switch (Figure A, Item 1) counterclockwise so the hole on the switch aligns
with the hole in the bracket (Figure A, Item 2).

b. Install the safety lockout device ring (Figure B, Item 1) through the holes on the battery disconnect switch
and the bracket.
c. Install a padlock (Figure B, Item 2) onto the safety lockout device ring, lock it, and put the key in your
pocket. If more than one person is working on the vehicle, each person must install his or her own padlock.

3. Drain fuel from fuel tank to reduce weight of tank.
4. Position and raise hydraulic jack/jack stand under fuel tank to support fuel tank when replacing tank strap
hardware. See Figure 1.

5. Loosen and remove lock nuts and flat washers from top and bottom tank strap T-bolts. See Figure 2. Lock
nuts will not be reused.

6. Install jam nuts (A000A903) on tank strap top T-bolts, fully thread jam nuts onto T-bolts. See Figure 3.

7. Reinstall tank strap bottom T-bolts into tank mounting brackets and install flat washers, removed in Step 5,
and lock nuts (A000E155). See Figure 4. Install locks nuts onto T-bolts a few turns.

8. Reinstall tank strap top T-bolts into tank mounting brackets and install flat washers, removed in Step 5, and
lock nuts (A000E155). Tighten lock nuts until the distance between the face of the mounting bracket and edge of
tank strap is 0.56" ± 0.25". See Figure 5.

9. Tighten top T-bolt jam nuts (A000A903) against mounting brackets hand tight. See Figure 6.
10.

Final tighten top tank strap top T-bolt lock nuts to 60 ft. lbs. See Figure 6.

Make sure fuel tank angle is correct. See Figure 7.

12.

Final tighten bottom tank strap T-bolt lock nuts (A000E155) to 20 ft. lbs. See Figure 8.

13.

Remove hydraulic jack/jack stand supporting fuel tank.

14.

Remove lockout/tag and wheel chocks.
