Illuminated MIL With DTCs P0455, P0456, P0442 And/Or P04EE

Issue: Some of the vehicles listed in the Model statement above may exhibit an illuminated MIL with DTCs P0455,
P0456, P0442 and/or P04EE. This may be due to a chafing or rubbing condition between the fuel vapor canister line
and the air vent hose.
Action: For vehicles that meet all of the criteria in the Issue and Model statements, follow the Service Procedure to
install a new fuel vapor canister line that includes a clip to maintain the gap with the air vent hose.

Service Procedure
1. Inspect the fuel vapor canister line for chafing or rubbing damage caused by contact against the air vent hose. Is
the fuel vapor canister line damaged due to chafing or rubbing contact against the air vent hose? (Figure 1)

(1). Yes - proceed to Step 2.
(2). No - this article does not apply, perform normal diagnostics outside of this article. Refer to the WSM, Section
303-13A Evaporative Emissions > Diagnosis and Testing.
2. Lower the fuel tank. Refer to the WSM, Section 310-01A > Fuel Tank and Lines > Removal and Installation.
(1). For gas vehicles: Refer to the WSM, Section 310-01A Fuel Tank and Lines - 2.0L EcoBoost > Removal and
Installation.
(2). For hybrid vehicles: Refer to the WSM, Section 310-01B Fuel Tank and Lines - 2.5L Duratec > Removal and
Installation.
3. Remove the fuel pump shield. (Figure 2)

4. Disconnect the quick release coupling of the fuel vapor canister line that connects to the fuel pump. (Figure 3)

(1). Discard the fuel vapor canister line.
5. Install a new fuel vapor canister line.
NOTE: The new fuel vapor canister line includes a clip to maintain the gap against the air vent hose. (Figure
4)

(1). Secure the new vapor canister line to the air vent hose using the new clip.
6. To assemble the vehicle, reverse the removal procedure.
7. Clear DTCs using FDRS.
