Condition

Condition 1. Some customers may comment that the inner tailgate will not release and is
inoperative. The primary tailgate will release and working properly.
Condition 2. This condition ONLY applies to the 2022 Silverado 1500 New RPO J22 and
2022 Sierra 1500 New RPO J22. Some customers my comment they are not able to
disable the inner tailgate and every time they try to disable the inner tailgate it just
releases. The inner tailgate can only be disabled if the vehicle is equipped with passive
keyless entry, see the latest version of PIT6054 for more information.

Cause

Cause 1. The cause of this concern could be that the inner tailgate is disabled, which is a
new feature starting with the 2022 model year.
Cause 2. This cause ONLY applies to the 2022 Silverado 1500 New RPO J22 and 2022
Sierra New 1500 RPO J22. BCM calibration issue.

Correction
Correction 1. To correct this concern enable the inner tailgate. The following information is from the owners manual:
The inner tailgate may be equipped with an enable/disable feature to prevent the inner tailgate from being opened
when a hitch or other equipment is installed that could damage the inner tailgate.
To disable the inner tailgate from opening: ensure that the remote key is within 1 meter (3 ft) of the rear bumper and
then hold the upper touch pad on the tailgate handle for up to seven seconds until the tail lamps flash.
The tail lamps will flash to alert you that the inner gate has been disabled.
The inner and outer tailgate can still be operated like a traditional tailgate, but the inner gate will not be able to be
opened alone.
To enable the inner tailgate function, hold the upper touch pad on the handle for up to seven seconds until the tail
lamps flash.
The inner tailgate can now be opened separately from the outer tailgate.
Correction 2. This correction ONLY applies to the 2022 Silverado 1500 New RPO J22 and 2022 Sierra 1500 New
RPO J22. To correct this concern reprogram the BCM with the latest calibrations currently available in SPS/TLC.

For vehicles repaired under the Bumper-to-Bumper coverage (Canada Base Warranty coverage), use the following
labor operation. Reference the Applicable Warranties section of Investigate Vehicle History (IVH) for coverage information.
This Warranty Information ONLY applies to the 2022 Silverado 1500 New RPO J22 and 2022 Sierra 1500 New RPO
J22 for Condition 2.
