Dear Cottrell Equipment Owner:
Please find enclosed Service Bulletin #SB028 which contains instructions for the 1-Car suction line filter
kit.
Our records indicate that you are the current owner of a Cottrell 1-Car (or multiple 1-Car’s) that may be
affected by SB028. The serial number(s) of your 1-Cars are indicated on the enclosed spread sheet.
Please refer to the enclosed Service Bulletin #SB028 with attached instruction packet. Identify your
unit/units needing the 1-Car suction line filter kit and follow the instruction packet attached. The
instruction packet will also be sent with your 1-Car Suction Line Kit.
Installation can be performed at the Cottrell Service Center, an Authorized Cottrell Warranty Repair
Facility, or a repair facility of your choice. You can access a list of the Cottrell repair facilities at
www.cottrelltrailers.com under “Find a Dealer.”
Cottrell will reimburse labor at a maximum of 1 hour per unit for the work associated with this Service
Bulletin #SB028. Reimbursement can be submitted with invoice and VIN to the below email address.

Step 1
Read this document to fully understand the installation process prior to
beginning work.
• Prepare truck to be worked on
• Ideally the truck would be in a clean, dry, and level location
• Slide the bed back out of the way to gain access in between the truck’s frame
rails
• Ensure the truck is off and parking brake is applied
• Chock rear wheels
• There is potential for oil to spill when the existing suction hose is relocated
• Check and record oil level before beginning work
• Use either a bucket, oil pan or other means to catch oil or have oil dry available to
absorb any leaked oil
Step 2
Identify the two existing holes in the frame rail crossmember to
use to mount the new filter bracket.

If bracket is present, unbolt and remove it.
Step 3
Orient the filter bracket as shown, with flange facing to the ground. Use the 3/8” bolt, washers, and locknut
provided to mount the filter bracket. It may be necessary to run the 3/8” bolt in with an impact driver or drill
hole out slightly for bolt to pass through the hole. Ensure the filter bracket remains level throughout the
mounting process.

Filter assembly is shown below. Mount the filter assembly to the filter mount bracket with the 5/16” bolts, and flat washers provided.

Once the filter assembly is installed, remove and save the hose securement clamp and loosen existing hose clamps from the
suction line hose where it is attached to the pump. Disconnect suction hose from the back of the pump. Oil will come out of
the hose, so when the hose is free from the back of the pump raise the hose up to avoid excessive oil loss.

The suction line hose that was disconnected from the back of the pump will now be installed on the ball valve side of the
filter assembly. Again, to minimize excessive oil loss, as the hose is swung to the hose barb end keep the hose raised until
it’s ready to be fed onto the hose barb. It will not be necessary to trim the suction line hose down. Ensure the hose is
fully fed on to the hose barb as shown. Tighten the existing hose clamps down once the hose is fed onto the hose barb.
There should be two hose clamps at this connection point as shown.

Install the provided new hose section to the back of the pump and to
the 90° hose barb opposite the ball valve. Ensure the hose is fully fed
onto the hose barbs as shown. Tighten the provided hose clamps to
fasten the hose to the hose barbs at each end of the hose. Use two
hose clamps at each connection point as shown.

Reattach the existing hose securement clamp. Wrap the provided hose guard around the suction line hose
where the two hose lines intersect. Tie strap the hoses together at their intersection with tie straps provided.

• Recheck oil level, if oil level dropped significantly, add oil to tank
before sliding bed back.
• Clean up any spilled oil and dispose of properly.
• Before starting the unit up and running the PTO, recheck and make
sure the ball valve handle is in the “open” position. Handle should be
inline with the hose. (See Step 7)
• After making sure the ball valve is in the “open” position, start the
unit and run the PTO. Visually inspect for leaks to ensure the unit is
ready for full operation.
