The repair quality of covered vehicles is extremely important to Lexus. All dealership technicians
performing this Special Service Campaign are required to successfully complete the most current
version of the E-Learning course “Safety Recall and Service Campaign Essentials”. To ensure that all
vehicles have the repair performed correctly; technicians performing this Special Service Campaign
repair are required to have completed the following course:
• LIC206A – Electrical Repair 1
It is the dealership’s responsibility to select technicians with the above certification level or greater to
perform this Special Service Campaign repair. Carefully review
your resources, the technician skill
level, and ability before assigning technicians to this repair. It is important to consider technician
days off and vacation schedules to ensure there are properly trained technicians available to perform
this repair at all times.

OPERATION FLOW CHART

The flow chart is for reference only. DO NOT use it in place of the full technical instructions. Follow ALL
steps as outlined in the full technical instructions to confirm the campaign is completed correctly.

II. IDENTIFICATION OF AFFECTED VEHICLES
1.

CHECK VEHICLE FOR CAMPAIGN ELIGIBILITY
a) Compare the vehicles VIN to the VIN listed on the Repair Order to ensure they match.
b) Check the TIS Vehicle Inquiry System to confirm the VIN is involved in this Campaign, and that it has not
already been completed.
HINT:
TMNA warranty will not reimburse dealers for repairs completed on vehicles that are not affected or
were previously completed, even by another dealer.

III. PREPARATION

IV. BACKGROUND
Included vehicles are equipped with Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+) 3.0, which includes the Pre-Collision System (PCS),
which uses the forward recognition camera. In rare cases, a software programming issue can damage the forward
recognition camera. This will result in the Pre-Collision System not working the next time the vehicle is started
What is included in the software update?
The remedy for this campaign involves updating the LSS+ 3.0 system to software version 02.02. In addition to
addressing the condition in this campaign, this software update provides the following enhancements.
• Adding Proactive Driving Assist (PDA).
o Proactive Driving Assist (PDA) uses the vehicle’s camera and radar, when system operating conditions are
met, to provide gentle braking and/or steering to support driving tasks such as distance control between the
vehicle and a preceding vehicle, pedestrian, or bicyclist. PDA can also provide gentle braking into curves.
o For more information see: https://www.lexus.com/manuals and input the vehicle model and model year. A
Proactive Driving Assist supplemental owner’s manual is available.
o Note: This feature will be disabled by the dealer by default after the software update.
•
Road Sign Assist (RSA): Enhancement of detection threshold (speed and distance) of road sign display feature.
•
Other: Additional minor improvements to support future software updates.

V. SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
CRITICAL INFORMATION - READ THOROUGHLY

An ECU could be damaged if an error occurs in the communication while reprogramming the ECU. Confirm all work
is performed as described in these instructions.

1.

STABILIZE THE POWER TO THE PERSONAL COMPUTER SIDE
a) Be sure to connect the personal computer to an external AC
power supply.

NOTICE:
The ECU could be damaged if the battery voltage of the personal
computer drops while reprogramming.

b)

Turn off the screen saver and power saving mode of the personal
computer so that the power to the hard disk is kept supplied.

NOTICE:
If the screen saver or power saving mode launches while
reprogramming, the communication may be disconnected,
resulting in the damage of the ECU.

c)

DO NOT block the ventilation opening for the cooling fan of the
personal computer.

NOTICE:
If the ventilation opening for the cooling fan is blocked with a
sheet cover or the like, the personal computer may be heated
excessively, causing the operation of the personal computer to
stop.
Due to the stop of the operation, the communication for
reprogramming signals could be stopped, resulting in the damage
of the ECU.

VI. FRONT RECOGNITION CAMERA SYSTEM CALIBRATION ID VERIFICATION

Perform a health check.
a) Using a GTS+, click the “Health Check” button on the Main Menu.

CHECK CURRENT CALIBRATION
a) Locate the “Calibration Update” column of the “Calibration Information” for the Front Recognition Camera
system on the "Health Check Result" screen.
b) Note – The update column may not list a “YES” indicating that an update is necessary. For this
reason, it is imperative to compare the current Calibration ID to the NEW Calibration ID.

◄ CRITICAL MESSAGE ►
It is critical that L-SB-0036-22 Rev2 in addition to the Technical Instructions for this Special Service Campaign are
followed. This LSB outlines all steps necessary to prevent reprogramming failure. Lexus will not provide reimbursement
coverage for reprogramming failures if this LSB is not followed.

VII. VEHICLE PREPERATION
1.

VEHICLE PREPARATION
a) Confirm the following conditions:
Vehicle in the IG position (for HEV and BEV Model:
READY OFF, for Gasoline Model: engine OFF)

2.

Turn off all electrical accessories (i.e. climate control,
audio system, etc.)

Transaxle in Park

Headlight switch in the DRL OFF position. (w/ DRL OFF
position)

Parking brake engaged

Windshield wiper switch in the OFF position

CONNECT THE 12V BATTERY TO A POWER SUPPLY
a) Connect the DCA-8000 or other type of a power supply (not a battery charger) to the 12 V battery
directly. DO NOT connect to the jump posts under the hood
b) Tap the Reflash icon from the Main Menu screen of the DCA-8000.
A power supply MUST be used during reprogramming. ECU damage will occur if the battery
voltage is not properly maintained during this re-flash procedure.

NOTICE:
A power supply must be connected directly to the 12V battery terminals and NOT the remote jump
posts under the hood (if equipped). If the 12V battery voltage drops during the re-flash procedure,
ECU damage can occur. If ECU damage occurs due to failure to follow these instructions, your
dealership will be responsible for costs associated with all ECU replacement.

3. PREVENT THE OPERATION OF THE COOLING FAN
a) Be sure to disconnect the cooling fan wire harnesses on the radiator fan shroud.
b) Cover the disconnected connectors with tape to prevent foreign material from entering/adhering to them.
If the cooling fan runs during the re-flash procedure, the battery voltage may become inconsistent
and can cause permanent damage to the ECU.

4. VERIFY GTS+ SETUP
a) Verify that the GTS+ meets the following conditions:
 The latest version of software is loaded.
 The GTS+ battery is fully charged. If not, connect the GTS+ to a 120 V source.
 The DLCIII cable is in good condition.
The GTS+ battery voltage must also be maintained during the re-flash procedure. If necessary,
plug the GTS+ into a 120 v outlet during this procedure.
NOTICE:
If the GTS+ communication with the vehicle fails during the re-flash procedure, the forward recognition
camera will be damaged.

UPDATE CALIBRATION
CONFIRM THE ECU CALIBRATION ID
a) Confirm the current calibration ID in the Front Recognition Camera System.
b) Note: The update column may not say there is calibration update available.

The calibration IDs to re-flash in this campaign are as shown in the table below.

Some vehicles may also be affected by Special Service Campaign 23LC01 – LEXUS
SAFETY SENSE+ INOPERATIVE INTERMITTENTLY
23LC01 must be completed before 25LC02 can be performed.

REFLASH THE FORWARD RECOGNITION CAMERA
a) Download the applicable calibration CUW file from the table above.
NOTICE:
Reflash failure should be extremely rare and can be avoided by following all instructions and
reprogramming best practices.

IX. COMPLETE REPAIR
1.

DISCONNECT THE DCA-8000

2. PERFORM VERIFICATION HEALTH CHECK
a) Using a GTS+, click the “Health Check” button on the Main Menu.
b) Clear DTC’s that may have set during the re-flash procedure.
c) Re-run the Health Check to confirm that no DTC’s reappear.
THIS VERIFICATION HEALTH CHECK IS
NECESSARY to update the results and CIDs
to the national database.

3.

CONFIRM CID UPDATE
a) On the Stored Data tab, confirm the following for the Front Recognition Camera System:
b) The Calibration number has the “New CID” number.
c) ***Campaigns closed without confirming the “New CID” number may be subject to a debit.

Confirm the CID has been updated successfully to the NEW CID by someone other than the
individual who performed the repair.

Please note: This feature is turned on by be default after completing this software update. Please navigate the PDA
settings and deactivate this feature using the head unit.. Advise the guest that this new feature is available and show
them how to activate it if they would like to.

4.

PRINT CUSTORMER HEALTH CHECK REPORT
a) From the Stored Data tab, select the Customer Health Check
Report button (TIS will launch when button is pressed).
b) Log in to TIS.
c) Input Vehicle Mileage and Repair Order number.
d) Check the “Performed” campaign button for the applicable
campaigns.
e) Select the Report button.

Confirm Customer Health Check Report information is correct.
Print Customer Health Check Report from TIS.
Sign and provide to the guest.

Confirm the reflash completes successfully and the 2nd health check shows the NEW calibration ID.
Confirm there are no DTCs after the Calibration update.
Confirm the PDA feature is turned off in vehicle settings.
Confirm cooling fans are reconnected.
