coverage, the following Vehicle Comment will show in the VIN-specific DCSnet Warranty Vehicle Inquiry:
SI B01 17 24 (RC 13 53 90 08 00): For this vehicle, the Fuel Injector Condition-Specific Repair
Coverage Program applies to qualifying repairs for the required replacement of one or more
the fuel injectors which were determined to have failed due to a buildup of external
corrosion in the engine’s center fuel injector bore area that resulted after this location was
periodically contaminated by engine coolant residue over time. This special program’s
coverage is 15 years / 150,000 miles as determined from the vehicle's original in-service /
first delivery date. It is subject to the same vehicle requirements and limitations criteria that
applies to the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Passenger Cars and Light Trucks. The
repair / replacement of cooling system components and / or the fuel injectors for other
issues are excluded under this special coverage.
Note: Before performing a repair and submitting a claim, first confirm that the above Notice shows,
confirming that it applies to the vehicle.
If you have eligibility and/or coverage questions, please contact the Warranty department through IDS by
selecting Coverage, Policy, Coding Questions and Mileage Corrections prior to performing any repair.

SITUATION

Special Component and Condition-Specific Repair Coverage Program
To assist the owners/operators with the applicable
Models listed above whose vehicles’ engine fuel
injectors fail due to coolant-related external
engine corrosion buildup in the engine’s center
fuel injector bore area, BMW of North America,
LLC (BMW NA) is providing the Fuel Injector
Condition-Specific Repair Coverage Program for:
•

15 years/150,000 miles, whichever occurs
first, as determined from your vehicle's
original in-service/first delivery date.

Important Note
The repair/replacement of cooling system
components and/or the fuel injectors for other
issues are excluded under this special
coverage.
This program’s special coverage applies to the
specific vehicle (VIN), the remaining portion of
this coverage is transferrable to each subsequent
owner, and it is subject to the same vehicle
eligibility requirements, limitations, and the
applicable exclusion criteria that applies to the
BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty for
Passenger Cars and Light Trucks.
Note: This is a notice of a special component and condition-specific repair coverage program.
This is NOT a notice of a Recall, Service Action, or an Extended Limited Warranty (ELW).
There is no immediate repair required unless applicable BMW vehicle is currently experiencing the
specific issue described in this Service Information Bulletin.
Customer Notification Letter
Even though this is NOT a Recall, BMW NA is sending VIN-specific customer notification letters.

CAUSE

Periodically released, spilled, and/or leaked engine coolant originating in the rear upper engine
compartment area can flow down, accumulate, contaminate the engine’s center fuel injector bore
area.
A primary source this coolant originates from is the engine’s coolant system expansion tank assembly
and the surrounding area (Cooling system service filler cap/pressure relief valve activation to release
excess coolant due to the system being overfill, and/or from the related cooling system hoses and/or
pipes).
Due to the above situations, engine coolant may periodically flow down, accumulate, and contaminate
the engine’s center fuel injector bore area. Over time, the remaining coolant residue may begin to
react, and a buildup of external engine corrosion could develop. The presence of corrosion in the
center fuel injector bore area may then unfavorably affect the engine’s electrically operated fuel
injectors long-term durability, causing one or more of them to fail.

If the fuel injectors fail for this reason, the engine will either run rough, or at a reduced power output
(Limp mode). Also, the vehicle’s monitoring system may generate and store any corresponding fault
codes, and the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will illuminate.
Important Repair Note and Procedure to Prevent a First and Repeat Occurrences

PROCEDURE

A small number of F90, F91, F92, and F93 vehicle models that are also included in this Service
Information Bulletin are also affected by following Emission Recall (RC 0017220200):
•

SIB 17 03 24: EMISSIONS RECALL 24E-A01: REPLACE THE COOLANT EXPANSION TANK

Always check the status of this Emission Recall first on the vehicle being repaired, if it applies
and it shows open, Recall SI B17 03 24 and its remedy repair then supersedes this Service
Information Bulletin.
