Introduction
Allison Transmission is authorizing a focused field action to update software in McNeilus Volterra ZSL
Refuse Vehicles equipped with Allison eGen Power 100S. The S245 Vehicle Propulsion Controller (VPC)
software and R8 PIM software updates bring improvements to e-Axle motor winding temperature diagnostics,
corrects diagnostic code system responses, address issues where maximum vehicle speed may be limited or
unintended shifts to neutral while at zero speed may occur. In conjunction with these changes, this S245 VPC
software update also provides Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) software functionality for advanced driverassistance systems from the OEM. This Allison software update requires both hardware and software updates
from the vehicle OEM to be completed before updating the Allison eGen Power system software. It is imperative
that Allison Channel Partners work with the OEM's service organization to complete this focused field action to
ensure the least amount of down time for our customers. The vehicles authorized to receive updated software
are specified in Table 3. An eGen Power Technical Assistance Center (TAC) Case Prep Form must be submitted
for each updated vehicle for a TAC case number. The minimum fields to be completed are listed below. If other
issues or complaints are identified on a vehicle requiring service at the time of performing this focused field action,
a complete form must be submitted and a separate claim filed for the repairs, in addition to the campaign claim.
As of the publication date, Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) in Table 3 with an asterisk (*) will require a
separate warranty claim to be filed for additional repairs. Waste Management vehicles in Table 3 with double
asterisks (**) need VPC Assembly Number 73SR15EH. All other trucks need VPC assembly Number 73SR15EG.

Recalibrate ECUs and Resolver Learn
Any additional parts, labor, net items or travel costs deemed necessary to complete this field action must
be described in detail in the claim narrative. Unexplained costs will be deducted from the claim. The Allison
Authorized Service Network must follow the published Allison current labor time guide for work performed when
adding any additional charges.
Procedure
To update the VPC to S245, refer to Appendix C: eGen Power Vehicle Propulsion Controller (VPC) Flashing
Procedure in SIL 01-EP-24.
To update the vehicle PIMs to R8 software, refer to Appendix D: eGen Power IGBT PIM Flashing Procedure in
SIL 01-EP-24.
To perform the resolver learn procedure after updating all the software, refer to Appendix E: eGen Power
Resolver Learn and Reset Procedure in SIL 01-EP-24.
