Condition
Some customers may comment on an exhaust leak after hard acceleration.
Some customers may also comment on a noise described as compressed air escaping,
or whoosh type noise when the accelerator is released.
Some technicians may find the exhaust back pressure valve is active during these certain
conditions.
Cause
This condition may be caused by a leak at the ball/flange of the connection of the exhaust
system to the engine portion of the exhaust system.
Correction
Add a graphite gasket to the clamped joint in the exhaust system.

preparing, classifying, packaging, marking, labeling, and shipping dangerous goods. In the event of a
conflict between the procedures set forth in this bulletin and the laws that apply to your dealership, you
must follow those applicable laws.
Service Procedure
1. If required, support and disconnect the exhaust pipe from any hangers.
Separate the exhaust assembly and discard clamp.
Note: It is extremely important that the pipes are clean and free of rust.
2. Utilizing an abrasive cloth or equivalent, clean the surfaces of the pipes.

3. Install the new graphite seal on to pipe (1) as shown in the graphic above.
4. Reconnect the pipe (2), verify for proper alignment.
5. Install the new clamp.
⇒
Tighten clamp to 28 Y (21 lb ft).
6. If any of the exhaust hangers were disconnected, re-secure them.
