This Technical Service Bulletin covers complaints related to the wheel cover or alloy wheel such as:
•

Difficulties fitting or removing the wheel cover on the alloy wheel

•

Damages to the wheel cover (broken fastener, cracked wheel cover)

•

Damage to the alloy wheel (scratched paint)

Technical Background
If the wheel cover is not centered during installation, damage may occur to both the wheel cover and alloy wheel.

Production Solution
Not Applicable.

Service
During wheel cover installation at PDI or during services that require removal and installation of the wheel cover, correct removal and installation
is necessary to prevent damage.
Correct handling of the wheel cover and wheel should also be explained to the customer upon vehicle handover (note owner's manual “Correct
wheel cover installation”).
Wheel Cover Installation:
Before starting the installation, check the condition of the wheel cover. Make sure that the fasteners are not damaged, and the metal clips fit in
the brackets (Figure 1 and 2).

1. Apply the wheel cover to the wheel in such a way that the fasteners of the wheel cover can engage flush with the recesses of the wheel
(Figure 3).

2. Align the wings of the wheel cover in such a way that the wing ends are parallel with the wheel (Figure 4).

3. Carefully press the individual wings onto the wheel, working sequentially in a clockwise direction. When applying pressure, ensure even
pressure distribution on the fasteners (Figure 5).

4. After all wings are pressed in, then the wheel cover center is pressed into the wheel (Figure 6). When getting the center in place be careful
with the VW badge as it can be easily damaged. Make sure that the brackets of the wheel cover securely engage and do not bend or snap off.

NOTICE
When fitting the wheel cover, if the individual wings are not aligned in parallel and not pressed sequentially in, this can
lead to the fasteners at the edge of the wheel slipping off, bending, and snapping. Damage to the wheel cover and the
wheel is then very likely and is not covered under warranty.

Wheel Cover removal:
The removal takes place in the same sequence; detach from the outside first, then the inside.

NOTICE
Damage to the wheel or wheel cover from using a prying tool is not covered under warranty.

1. Reach behind the first wing with your hand and release each wing sequentially in a clockwise direction (Figure 7).

2. After all the wings are released, then the wheel cover center is removed from the center seat. With both hands grab the inner part of the wheel
cover to remove (Figure 8).

Warranty
Damage to the wheel cover and alloy wheel is caused by misuse and therefore there is no fault in the sense of warranty.
