Oil residue on cylinder head cover.

Workshop findings:
•

Cylinder head cover leaking in the area around the threaded connection (on one or multiple bolts).

Technical Background
In rare cases, the cylinder head cover bolts may become loose, resulting in oil residue in the area of the threaded connection.

Production Solution
Improved fastener used in production.

Service
Please check all 22 cylinder head cover bolts.
The oil separator must be removed.
Check that the cylinder head cover bolts are tightened to a torque of 14 Nm in the order shown in the illustration below.
Order for checking torque

CAUTION
If, while checking the cylinder head cover bolts are tightened to 14 Nm, if the torque wrench does not click after a quarter
turn (90°), the affected bolt must be replaced.

Replace any loose bolts.
Tighten the new bolt(s) to a torque of 8 Nm + 90°.

NOTICE
If several cylinder head cover bolts are affected, do not loose them at the same time (i.e. several at once). Remove,
replace and tighten the bolts one by one in the order shown above.

When replacing with a new bolt, it must be tightened to a torque of 8 Nm + 90°. If several bolts are affected, do not loosen them at the same time
(i.e. several at once). Remove, replace and tighten the bolts one by one in the order shown.

CAUTION
When re-tightening the bolt, the maximum torque of 14 Nm must not be exceeded!
Please ensure that replacing the bolts remedies the leaking.

NOTICE
In this case, contrary to the information in ELSA, the oil separator gasket should be reused after removing the oil separator
provided, that it is undamaged. Only remove the gasket from the oil separator if it is damaged.
