Updating The Engine Oil Level for Hybrid and
Trofeo Models

ATTENTION! This bulletin supersedes MAS004058 MTB 24-16 released on March 22, 2024. This bulletin
has been updated with new info. Please discard/remove all copies of the previous bulletin.

This Technical bulletin serves as a guide and provides additional diagnostic info to update the
engine oil level displayed on the ICS (Integrated Center Stack) for Grecale Hybrid Vehicles and
GranTurismo, GranCabrio, and Grecale Trofeo versions.
These instructions are intended to be applied uniquely only if it is impossible to delete the DTCs
related to incorrect engine oil level in ECM ECU (although the amount of engine oil is correct and
the applicable procedures indicated in the Workshop Manual have been performed correctly)
and/or if the engine oil level shown on the instrument panel of the vehicle cannot be updated.

MODELS:
•

Grecale MHEV and Trofeo versions M182 (ALL MY)

•

GranTurismo/GranCabrio and Trofeo versions M189 (ALL MY)

Required actions to update the engine oil level displayed on the ICS:
1. Park the vehicle on a flat level surface.
2. Warm up the engine until the engine temp reaches 90°C (194°F)
3. Using the EVO, select ECM ►Base Diagnosis ►search and monitor Variables “3A41 - Engine oil
level (Hybrid Vehicles)/0422 – Average engine oil level (Trofeo versions)”. Note the current
value.

4. Perform a key-off/key-on cycle, wait for 20s and launch the Engine Oil Level Initialization routine. If
the routine fails, launch it again up to three times. If the outcome is still not successful, go directly
to step 6.
5. Check that the oil level is within the following range by reading RDI 0x3A41 – Oil Level:

6. If the level is within the range, continue with the procedure. Otherwise, add or remove oil until it is
in the range prescribed in the table above and go back to step 3.
7. To update the oil level on the instrument panel, warm up the engine until the oil reaches the
temperature of 90°C. Refer to RDI 130b – Engine Oil Temperature (MHEV) or 3A54 – Engine Oil
Temperature (Grecale/GranTurismo/GranCabrio Trofeo).
8. Monitor Variables 130B - Oil temperature (Hybrid Vehicles)/3A54 - Engine Oil Temperature (Trofeo
versions) and wait until the engine oil temperature reaches 90ºC (194ºF).

9. Idle the engine until the oil level on the vehicle display is updated (switch from red bar to white
bar) and check that RDI 0x3A41 – Oil Level is within the range of the table above.
10. Clear all ECM DTCs and check whether the engine oil level displayed on the ICS has updated.
11. Read the “3A41 - Engine oil level (Hybrid Vehicles)/0422 – Average engine oil level (Trofeo
versions)” Variable again to confirm.
If the engine oil level update procedure is not successful, repeat the procedure after a road test.

Additional Information
Below are the threshold values for “engine oil level too low” (insufficient level) and “engine oil
level too high” (excessive level):
A. For Grecale Hybrid models:
- Underfill threshold: 3200 ml (3.38 qt) (associated with engine warning light).
- Overfill threshold: 5200 ml (5.49 qt) (associated with message on Cluster).
B. For Grecale Trofeo models:
- Underfill threshold: 5500 ml (5.81 qt) (associated with message on Cluster).
- Overfill threshold: 8000 ml (8.45 qt) (associated with message on Cluster).
C. For GranTurismo/GranCabrio Trofeo models:
- Underfill threshold: 6000 ml (6.34 qt) (associated with message on Cluster).
- Overfill threshold: 8500 ml (8.98 qt) (associated with message on Cluster).
