Units Affected: Certain LR8 aerial devices built from January 2021 to October 2024. Verify your unit is
affected by reviewing the attached list or accessing Altec Connect.
Background: Altec has learned that the affected units could experience issues with the lanyard detection
interlock system being out of adjustment due to the improper installation of the fiber optic cable on the
transmitter, as well as signal interference from nearby transmission lines. These defects, stemming from
early production challenges, have been resolved by implementing adjustment criteria, improving cable
installation, addressing interference issues, and updating the firmware.
Customer Action: Inspect the lanyard detection system using the Inspection Procedure beginning on page 2, or contact Altec to perform this inspection. Order and install
the Lanyard Detection System Calibration Kit, part number 991846494, along with any
additional components identified during the inspection, or contact Altec to perform this
installation. Scan the QR code at the right or click here to request the proper firmware for
your unit. Complete the inspection, repair, and firmware update no later than the unit’s
next annual inspection or 6 months from the receipt of this notice, whichever comes first. Warranty for
this repair expires May 1, 2027.
Subsequent damage due to failure to perform the required action(s) in the time period allowed will not be
covered by warranty.
Ask your service provider to check for any outstanding notices at your next appointment.
Requirements: Every affected unit requires the installation of the Lanyard Detection System Calibration Kit and firmware update. The inspection is estimated to take 1 hour and one person to complete. The
repair and firmware update is estimated to take 3.5 hours and one person to complete. The firmware update
requires the use of the AXIS Service Tool.
Completion and Warranty: The inspection and repair are covered under the Altec Warranty Policy
