Symptom/Vehicle Issue: Door Trim Panel Fitment. Warpage, Buzz Squeak Rattle

(BSR) Noises. Poor Audio Sound Quality From Door Speaker.

Discussion: This document discusses possible causes of door trim mis-install,

warping, and rattle noise. Prior to replacing door panels, read through all conditions.

1. Mis-install (loose, not seated) or warping of the door trim can be fixed, one or

more clips might not be engaged into the sheet metal holes. The panel would

look as if it was warped, if the clips did not engage into the sheet metal holes.

BSR noise is possible if the clips did not engage into the sheet metal holes.

A. Remove the door panel per procedure and determine if all push pins were

engaged into the sheet metal. The push pins are two-piece design:

06510359aa. Refer to STAR Parts catalog. The clip stays on the sheet

metal if installed properly. If it was mis-install, both pieces of the push pin

will be attached to the door panel. Replace any damaged pin or clips.

B. BSR (rattle) from the door panel or door system: Concern could be with

front or rear doors, LH or RH side. Inspect the door panel attachments, M6

bolts (06508450AA) and clips (06513757AA). Replace any missing M6

bolts or clips and tighten any loose screws prior to doing any further

repairs. Once completed perform an audio test (listen to high BASS type

NOTE: A properly secured door trim panel is essential to quiet operation. Follow the

installation steps in Service Library closely. Refer to 23 - Body / Doors - Front / PANEL,

2. Audio sound issues: Types of defects are related to the sound quality such as

no sound, crackling sound, or static noise, cone damage or coil damage.

Make sure connectors to the speaker is secure. Listen to music and adjust

sound output to one door at a time at a higher volume step to identify source

of the issue. If the speaker does not show any of the above defects, do not

remove speaker from the door.
3. Buzz Squeak Rattles. If the door panel has been confirmed to be properly

attached, M6 screws and pushpins have been inspected yet a BSR is still

present from the door panel, BSR foams can be used suspect location to

resolve noise. Use Mopar BSR foam kit PN 68643556AA and place the foam

where needed on the B-side of the door trim panel to eliminate noise.

Speakers should not be replaced, if it produces good quality sound. Generally,

the speakers do not create BSR noise. Plastic vibration on sheet metal or

loose components could cause BSR noise in the doors.

4. Replacement of the door panels should only occur in cases where there are

cracks or physical damage to the panel.
