Summary
Service Bulletin - Torque converters may not have been manufactured to proper specifications. As a result, the lock-up clutch cannot provide adequate holding force due to pressure bleeding down through a crack in the lock-up piston. The reduced lock-up clutch capacity results in the transmission indicator flashing “D” and set the DTC P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Performance or Stuck OFF.

BACKGROUND
Torque converters may not have been manufactured to proper specifications. As a result, the lock-up clutch cannot provide
adequate holding force due to pressure bleeding down through a crack in the lock-up piston. The reduced lock-up clutch
capacity results in the transmission indicator flashing “D” and set the DTC P0741 Torque Converter Clutch Performance or
Stuck OFF.
American Honda
is extending the warranty on the torque converter to 10 years or 150,000 miles from the original date of
purchase, whichever comes first.
CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION
Owners of affected vehicles will be sent a notification of this campaign.
Do an iN VIN status inquiry to make sure the vehicle is shown as eligible.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Confirm the vehicle has DTC P0741 stored and replace the torque converter.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
1. Check the vehicle for DTCP0741.
•
If DTC P0741 is set, go to the REPAIR PROCEDURE.
•
If DTC P0741 is not set, this service bulletin does not apply, continue with normal troubleshooting.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Check the ATF level.
Automatic Transmission Fluid capacity
4.5L (4.8 US qt) with torque converter replacement
2. Check the ATF temperature when greater than or equal to 80°C (176°F).
•
Overfilled transmission level can cause an overheat condition.
•
If the fluid level is checked at a colder temperature, it will read low or on the bottom dot of the dipstick.
•
If the transmission fluid is filled to the top dot when cold, the transmission will be overfilled, increasing foaming
and contributing to the overheating problem.
