Introduction
This Technical Service Information Bulletin has been issued to advise customers to change the lower dust cap on
the rear brake calipers on certain MiDi contracts. This is to be undertaken as part of the next scheduled service for
affected vehicles (a list can be found in the “Scope” section at the end of this document).
Description of Problem

A fouling condition has been discovered between the spring beam and the lower brake caliper dust cap for
the slider pins, occurring when brake pad wear reaches approx. 50%.
As the brake pad continues to wear beyond this level, the dust cap is deformed by the lug on the spring
beam, with the paint finish on the spring beam also affected to a minor degree.
There are 2 sizes of dust caps available for the calipers, with the larger (5/8”) cap fitted by default. However,
on the lower slider pin, the shorter (1/8”) cap can be fitted as there is no protrusion in this area (i.e., the
cavity offered by the larger cap is not required).
This does not have a noticeable impact on the functionality of the brake calipers and was discovered
through visual inspection only. The damage to the spring beams is negligible and of no concern.

IMPORTANT: This issue affects both the off-side and near-side brake calipers.

NOTE: In accordance with the service manual for these vehicles, please ensure that brake pads are changed as
soon as indicated by the warning light on the dash. If the brake pads are nearing full wear, you may wish to take
the opportunity to replace them during this procedure.

Replace the 5/8” dust cap on the lower caliper slider pin with the 1/8” one supplied in the repair kit, and discard the
cap taken off the caliper. Retain the remaining parts from the kit for potential future use.

Remplacement des capuchons anti-poussière des étriers de frein arrière

Introduction
Ce bulletin d’information technique a été publié pour conseiller aux clients de remplacer le capuchon antipoussière inférieur des étriers de frein arrière sur certains contrats MiDi. Cette opération doit être effectuée dans
le cadre du prochain entretien prévu pour les véhicules concernés (une liste figure dans la section « Champ
d'application » à la fin du présent document).

Un encrassement a été découvert entre la poutre à ressort et le capuchon anti-poussière de l'étrier de frein
inférieur pour les goupilles coulissantes, qui se produit lorsque l'usure des plaquettes de frein atteint environ
50%.
Lorsque la plaquette de frein continue à s'user au-delà de ce niveau, le capuchon anti-poussière est
déformé par l'ergot de la poutre à ressort, et la peinture de la poutre à ressort est également légèrement
affectée.
Il existe deux tailles de capuchons anti-poussière pour les étriers, le plus grand (5/8") étant monté par
défaut. Cependant, sur l'axe inférieur du coulisseau, le capuchon le plus court (1/8") peut être monté car il
n'y a pas de protubérance dans cette zone (par conséquent, la cavité offerte par le capuchon le plus grand
n'est pas nécessaire).
Cela n'a pas d'incidence notable sur le fonctionnement des étriers de frein et n'a été découvert qu'à
l'occasion d'une inspection visuelle. Les dommages causés aux poutres à ressort sont négligeables et ne
posent aucun problème.

REMARQUE : Conformément au manuel d'entretien de ces véhicules, veillez à ce que les plaquettes de frein
soient remplacées dès que le voyant d'avertissement s'allume sur le tableau de bord. Si les plaquettes de frein
sont presque complètement usées, vous pouvez profiter de l'occasion pour les remplacer au cours de cette
procédure.
