This TSB contains the procedure for deleting and reinstalling the navigation database in the MIB3 MMI system.
Workshop findings:
+ Please only delete the nav database as described below if this is specified in a TSB or if you are asked to do
so by TAC.
Ay caution
If this TSB is performed in combination with recall 91DZ, the warranty instructions below do not apply as
reimbursement is within the scope of that recall.

Do not use Internet Explorer to download the files in this TSB. Edge, Firefox, Chrome or Safari should be
used.

Preparation (if up to date nav data for MIB3 vehicles is not already installed)
1. Please download the current MIB3 Navigation database from the following link:

2. Download both files from the download link provided above; Select download folder, and then go to the PC “C
drive”.
3. Find the 64GB USB-C drive, right-click the USB-C icon, select format, and then select “NTFS” (if the drive is
formatted in FAT32, it might not be possible to update the vehicle via the customer update.

4. Formatting the USB-C drive erases all files on the drive.
5. Open 7-zip (available at www.7zip.org if needed) and locate the NAV files on the C drive and select both files,
then click the extract icon.
6. Once the files are extracted, open the new folder. It should contain at least the folders “Data” and “Meta”. In
addition, some other files may be present (*.md5).
7. Open the USB-C drive that was formatted to NTFS and copy the files listed above directly to the drive (they
CANNOT be in a subfolder and must be in the root directory of the USB-C drive).
8. Eject the USB-C drive.

Proceed as follows to delete the nav data

1. In ODIS, under Guided Fault Finding/Guided Functions, select and execute the following test plan: Self test >>
Diagnostic capable system >> 005F - Information Electronics Control Module 1 -J794- (MIB2+ or MIB3) >>
005F - Information Electronics 1, functions / OO5F - Basic Setting

2. Under the basic settings program, select the function Erase navigation databank or Partitions of internal
memory and select the Navigation data bank value (this usually takes less than 3 seconds).

3. End the diagnostic session and await a vehicle sleep cycle.

4. After turning the ignition of the vehicle back on, wait for a few minutes until all MMI functions have been
initialized.

5. Insert the USB-C drive that was previously prepared into the vehicle; the MMI should detect the new
navigation database automatically and prompt the user to install it. Alternatively, you can go into the MMI
settings section; MMI Settings >> select system maintenance >> software update.

6. At this point, the software update should be available if the prior steps are performed properly.

7. After the update has completed, perform an MMI reset (press and hold the on/off button for approx. 10
seconds).

8. Unplug the USB-C drive.

The navigation map will now be displayed, and the navigation feature can be used.

If the MMI does not detect the USB-C drive, please try re-inserting it several times. Alternatively, try to use a different

USB-C drive.

Please keep the USB-C flash drive with the navigation data as a workshop tool. It is not required to call

into TAC or re-download the navigation data if the USB-C flash drive has already been created and is

available. If an updated NavDB is available, it will automatically be installed via an online update after the
initial NavDB is installed. It is not required to keep the vehicle in a service bay or to supervise the update
after it has been started.

A CAUTION

These warranty instructions are not applicable if this TSB is performed in combination with recall 91DZ,

as reimbursement is handled via that recall.
