DANGER
Because of the height of the roof and the nature of the repair, use of a ladder is required. Follow all ladder
safety instructions posted on the ladder. It is required that professional technicians perform the repair. Use all
appropriate fall protection. Failure to do so could result in injury or death.
Condition:
Brinkley RV towable units are equipped with “attic vents” to allow air to flow from the roof cavity of the
unit, reducing the amount of heat and moisture trapped in the roof area. The existing vents are made from
polycarbonate and can crack over time, allowing potential water intrusion. Attic vents should be replaced with
polypropylene vents to minimize possiblility of water intrusion and to continue the venting action as designed.
Correction:
Brinkley RV has established a procedure to replace the original polycarbonate attic vents with the
polypropylene version. As a proactive measure, and to protect our customer’s investment, Brinkley RV will, at
no charge to the customer, pay to replace a customers attic vents.

too advanced or the procedure too difficult, a certified technician should be consulted before performing the

a full face shield depending on the nature of the task to be performed.

Use caution not to damage the roof cover material and structure when cutting, scraping and prying.
1. READ AND UNDERSTAND ALL
INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO BEGINNING
WORK.
2. Locate the attic vents on the roof of the unit.
The number of roof vents varies by model and
floor plan.

4. Use a screw gun and #2 square drive bit to
remove the screws holding the attic vent to
the roof (Figure 3).

3. Use the oscillating multi-tool to remove the
sealant around the attic vent. Cut and peel old
sealant to completely reveal the attic vent base
(Figure 2a and Figure 2b).

5. Use a prying tool to gently pry the attic vent
base loose from the roof. Remove the attic
vent and discard (Figure 4).

7. Using clean, lint free shop rag and a 50/50
mixture of Isopropyl alcohol and water,
thoroughly clean the mating surfaces on
the roof where the new attic vent will be
installed.

6. Remove all adhesive and sealant from the
roof surface where the attic vent is to be
installed (Figure 5a and 5b).

8. Use a clean shop rag and the Isopropyl
alcohol and water mixture to clean the top
and bottom of the attic vent base (Figure 6).
9. Unscrew the top cap portion of the attic vent
from the base.

13. Place the new attic vent into position on
the roof. Be certain the “FRONT” portion
of the new attic vent is facing the front of
the RV. (Figure 8).

10. Apply Apha Adhesion Promotor (part# 107876)
to the bottom of the new attic vent. Install butyl
tape (part# 100620) around the perimeter of
the attic vent base (Figure 7).

11. Use a clean shop rag and the Isopropyl alcohol
and water mixture to clean the roof membrane
where the new attic vent will be installed. Allow
to dry.
12. Apply Apha Adhesion Promotor to the roof
membrane where the new attic vent is to be
installed.

14. Screw the new attic vent to the roof using
the original fasteners (Figure 9). Use a low
torque setting on the screw gun to avoid
damaging the roof and attic vent. DO NOT
overtorque the screws.

15. Seal the perimeter of the attic vent base
using 5121 Self-Leveling sealant (Figure
10).

17. Screw cap (top) back onto attic vent base
(Figure 13).

16. Seal the entire vent base to the roof with
5121 Self-Leveling sealant (Figure 11a and
11b).
