Case description
Due to cracking in the step area of the fairing, an updated support bracket has been introduced. The new support
bracket will provide the better structure behind the fairing, reducing the likelihood of cracking. All new fairings will come
with the updated support. Updated brackets are available for older fairings for additional structure support.

Procedure
You must read and understand the precautions and guidelines in Service Information, group 80, "General Safety
Practices, Cab" before performing this procedure. If you are not properly trained and certified in this procedure, ask
your supervisor for training before you perform it.

Park the vehicle on a level surface.
Apply the parking brake.
Install the wheel chocks.
Remove the battery box cover.
Disconnect all cables from the negative (ground) battery terminals to prevent personal injury from electric shock
and prevent damage to electrical components.
6. Operate the two fairing latch handles and open the vehicle’s front chassis side fairing assembly that is to be
removed.

7. Unhook the lanyard safety latch. Remove the chassis side fairing assembly from the vehicle and move it to a safe
work location.
8. Turn over the fairing so the painted side is down.
9. Remove all 6 fastens securing the front fairing support to the fairing.
10. Install the new support bracket (78685696 for LH side, 78685758 for RH side) on the fairing using the existing
hardware and torque to specification.

Tightening torque
Support bracket hardware 24 ± 4 Nm (18 ± 3 lbf⋅ft)
11. Remove the six fasteners securing the lower rear bracket and remove the bracket.
12. Remove the four fasteners securing the rear support.

13. Remove the L bracket from the old lower bracket and install on the new bracket (78685745 for LH side,
78685763 for RH side) using the existing hardware.
14. Install the new rear support bracket (78685727 for LH side, 78685764 for RH side) and the new lower support
bracket (78685745 for LH side, 78685763 for RH side)
15. Hand tighten all securing hardware.
16. Install two new M8 fastens, two new M8 nuts and hand tighten.

18. Position the front chassis side fairing assembly onto the vehicle, reconnect the lanyard to secure it and close the
front chassis side fairing assembly.

19. Check and verify that the reinstalled front chassis side fairing is straight on the vehicle. Adjust the position as
needed.
20. This procedure will be completed on both the left-hand side (Driver side) and the right-hand side (passenger side)
of the vehicle.
21. Once both fairings have been completed, reconnect all previously removed cables to the negative (ground)
battery terminals.
22. Reinstall the battery box cover.
23. Remove the wheel chocks.
24. Return vehicle to service.
