This Service Information Bulletin replaces SI 23 01 21 dated March 11, 2021.
What is new:
1. Differential covers are now more readily available. The procedure section has been re written to accommodate for this
update.

SITUATION
Sealing ring on the differential cover of the reverser is leaking.
Radial shaft seal faulty.
PROCEDURE
The differential cover of the reverser cannot be serviced by just replacing the sealing ring alone. This is
because a special device is required to properly assemble the eccentric shaft with the eccentric lever and
bring the lever system into the correct position.
The recommended repair solution is to replace the entire differential cover of the reverser.
Replacement differential covers are now more readily available.
If a customer's bike has a leak on the sealing ring of the differential cover, first check to see if replacement
differential covers are available. If the differential cover is not available, then the only solution is to replace

the complete transmission assembly.
Claims of complete transmission assemblies from Feb 13th, 2025 and forward will require documentation via
warranty IDS ticket, where the differential cover was not available at the time of replacement.
PARTS INFORMATION
Obtain and confirm the part numbers for your specific vehicle by entering the chassis number in ETK which
takes into account specific equipment and/or options.
Additional parts like gaskets, hardware and chemicals may be required for the complete repair.
WARRANTY INFORMATION
Covered under the terms of the BMW
New Vehicle Limited Warranty for Motorcycles, if applicable.
Submit an “Info Only” TSARA case for documentation if being repaired under the New Vehicle Limited
Warranty.

This Service Information Bulletin replaces SI 23 01 21 dated March 2021.

SITUATION
Sealing ring on the differential cover of the reverser is leaking.
Radial shaft seal faulty.
PROCEDURE
It is not possible to change just the sealing ring in the differential cover of the reverser, as a special
device is needed to assemble the eccentric shaft with the eccentric lever in order to bring the lever
system into the correct position. The repair solution should be to replace the differential cover of the
reverser, but these are currently unavailable.

If a customer bike has a leak on the reverser sealing ring of the differential cover, the current solution
is the replacement of the complete transmission assembly.
When the differential covers become available, this bulletin will be updated with a new repair
procedure, as well as part and warranty information.
