Procedure
1. With the Service Laptop Computer connected to the Internet, click the link below to browse to
the following location on the Proterra Intranet.
\\bus.local\files\Engineering\Service Bulletins\Service Bulletin Files for SC-19-123
2. The folder contents will appear as follows.
3. Copy the folders from this location to the desktop. This should appear similar to the following
illustration.

4. Preform the Proterra approved Lockout/Tagout procedure to make the bus safe for work.
Lockout Master Disconnect
5. Using a 4mm Allen Wrench or a #2 Phillips Screwdriver, open the Curbside Hadley door to
access the HVAC unit as shown below.
Bus Harness
6. Disconnect the Bus Harness from the HVAC Unit.
7. Connect the Programming Harness (046618) to the Bus Harness that was just disconnected
from the HVAC Unit. Also connect the Programming Harness to the HVAC Unit to the same
connector that the Bus Harness was removed from.

8. Connect the DB9 Connector on the Programming Harness (046618) to the PCAN Harness.
9. Connect the PCAN Cable to a USB port on the Laptop Computer.
10. Remove the Lockout/Tagout devices and turn the Master Disconnect back on.
11. Working in the Driver’s workplace, power the bus on.
12. Turn the HVAC unit off.
13. On the Laptop Computer, open the “Flash Tool” folder on the desktop.

14. While in the desktop folder shown above, right click on the Datenpacket ZIP File. Select the
“Extract All” option in the menu that appears.
Click “Extract All”
15. Ensure that “Show extracted files when complete” is checked, then click on the “Extract
Pushbutton”.
16. The files will be extracted to a folder. The folder will open with the contents shown below.

17. Double click the Datenpacket folder to open it. The contents are shown below.
18. Double click the “Flash” file (circled in red) shown above.
19. The following dialog box may appear.
20. If it does, click on “More Info” as shown above. Then click the “Run anyway” Button.

21. The “Flash” utility will open as shown below.
22. Click on the “Open” Button and navigate to the HVAC folder on the desktop.
23. Double click on the file in this folder.
24. This will populate the file in the “Firmware” selection box as shown below.

25. Enter any 12-digit number in the “Serial Number” box as shown below.
26. Enter 740 into the Physical Request box and 640 into the Response ID Box shown below.
Note: These values must be correct, or the HVAC unit will be rendered inoperable.

27. Click on the Start Button to begin the firmware update. It may be necessary to click the button
twice to start the process.
28. The tool will show an increasing percentage until it is complete at 100 percent.
29. After the process completes, click on the “Open” button in the utility.

30. Navigate to the HMI folder on the desktop.
31. Double Click on the file in this folder. This file will populate in the “Firmware” selection box of
the utility.
32. Enter 747 into the Physical Request box and 647 into the Response ID Box.
Note: These values must be correct, or the HVAC unit will be rendered inoperable.

33. Click on the Start Button to start the firmware update. It may be necessary to click the button
twice to start the process.
34. The tool will show an increasing percentage until it is complete at 100 percent.
35. Wait for the update process to complete.
36. Perform the Proterra Lockout/Tagout procedure to make the bus safe for work.
37. Disconnect the programming Harness and reconnect the HVAC to the bus harness.
38. Remove the Lockout/Tagout devices and start the bus.
39. Test the HVAC for proper operation before returning the bus to service.
