The repair quality of covered vehicles is extremely important to Toyota. All dealership technicians
performing this recall are required to successfully complete the most current version of the ELearning course “Safety Recall and Service Campaign Essentials”. To ensure that all vehicles have
the repair performed correctly; technicians performing this recall repair are required to have
completed the following courses:
• 852 Engine Controls 1

It is the dealership’s responsibility to select technicians with the above certification level or greater to
perform this recall repair. Carefully review

your resources, the technician skill level, and ability

before assigning technicians to this repair. It is important to consider technician days off and
vacation schedules to ensure there are properly trained technicians available to perform this repair at
all times.

ALL steps as outlined in the full technical instructions to confirm the campaign is completed correctly.

II. IDENTIFICATION OF AFFECTED VEHICLES
1. CHECK VEHICLE FOR CAMPAIGN ELIGIBILITY
a) Compare the vehicles VIN to the VIN listed on the Repair Order to ensure they match.
b) Check the TIS Vehicle Inquiry System to confirm the VIN is involved in this Campaign, and
that it has not already been completed.
HINT:
TMNA warranty will not reimburse dealers for repairs completed on vehicles that are not affected
or were previously completed, even by another dealer.

V. BACKGROUND
In the subject vehicles, the vapor leak detection monitor system may not detect a vapor leak from the fuel filler cap
and illuminate the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). If fuel vapor leaks from the filler cap, it is possible that there
could be a fuel smell.

VII. REMOVE FUEL PUMP
1. CHECK FOR DTCS TO CONFIRM VEHICLE ORGINAL CONDITION
NOTICE:
When DTC is output, check and record the code and freeze frame to repair it if necessary.

2. DRAIN ALL FUEL FROM THE TANK.
NOTICE:
The tank must be drained completely so your hand is not submerged in fuel
when installing the clamp on the interior of the tank.

VIII. INSTALL FUEL TANK CLAMP (Interior of Tank)
1. ELIMINATE STATIC ELECTRICITY
a) Since there is a risk of igniting gasoline due to
static electricity, touch the door lock striker with
your bare hands before work to release the static
electricity.
HINT:
・Install FUEL TANK CLAMP on FUEL TANK FILLER
PIPE SUB-ASSY LWR to prevent the metal valve
from closing completely.
・FUEL TANK FILLER PIPE SUB-ASSY LWR is
mounted approximately 12 inches from the fuel
tank opening to the driver’s side.

2. INSTALL FUEL TANK CLAMP
REFER TO THE VIDEO HERE
a) Put your arm in the tank and set the clamp in
groove of FUEL TANK FILLER PIPE SUB-ASSY
LWR with your index and middle fingers.
Note: Cutaway image of tank used for example.

b) Hold the metal valve open with your thumb and
ring finger.
NOTICE:
Do not open the metal valve too much beyond
the position of the stopper, because it may
deform.

c)

Push the clamp with your index finger and middle
finger and insert it.
HINT:
If you perform the work with your right hand,
access the inside of the fuel tank from the
luggage compartment.

3. INSPECT THE CLAMP INSTALLATION CONDITION.
a) Perform the following inspections to check the clamp is installed in
the correct position.
