Purpose
This document is to provide guidance to technicians performing inspections on units that may have an
incorrect outer bearing installed on the PN 243185 hub assembly - brake hub - 865H-5/8 - hybrid - GRS, a 12"
hub assembly with an 8,000-pound capacity.
The incorrect bearing may cause the assembly to overheat and potentially result in a wheel to detach from
the end of the axle spindle. The axles with the suspected incorrect point bearing installs were built between
April 20, 2022, and May 6, 2022. Axles found to have the incorrect bearing will have the entire axle replaced.
NOTE: If it is determined the axle has the incorrect bearing, the trailer is NOT to be used until a new axle
has been installed.
Safety
This document provides general instructions. Many variables can change the circumstances of any
procedure, i.e. the degree of difficulty involved in the service operation and the ability level of the individual
performing the operation. This document cannot begin to plot out procedures for every possibility, but will
provide the general instructions for effectively installing, removing or servicing the system. In the event the
skill level required is too advanced or the procedure too difficult, a certified technician should be consulted
before performing the necessary operation. Failure to correctly install, remove or service the system may
result in voiding the warranty, inflicting injury or even death.
The "WARNING" symbol above is a sign that a procedure has a safety risk involved and may cause
death, serious personal injury, severe product and/or property damage if not performed safely and
within the parameters set forth in this document.
Always lift the trailer by its frame and never by its axle or suspension. Axle and suspension components
are not designed, or rated, for the dead weight, point-of-contact loads that the trailer's frame is. Do not
go under the trailer unless it is supported by appropriately-rated jack stands. Improperly supported
trailers can collapse, causing possible serious personal injury or death.
The "CAUTION" symbol above is a sign that a procedure has a safety risk involved and may cause
personal injury, product and/or property damage if not performed safely and within the parameters
set forth in this document.
Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when performing service or maintenance
operations. Always wear eye protection when servicing trailer axles, brakes, hubs, springs and wheels.
Not using PPE may result in serious personal injury.

Instructions
1. Lift and support unit per manufacturer's requirements.
2. Remove the lug nuts from the wheel and set aside (Fig. 1). If using an impact driver, ensure the driver
has come to a complete stop before moving to the next lug nut to avoid rounding the edges of the nut.
3. Remove the wheel from the axle hub (Fig 2) and set aside.
4. Using a2 1/2"socket, remove the threaded dust cap (Fig. 3).
5. Pull the cotter pin from the castle nut with pliers and discard (Fig. 4).

6. Remove the castle nut and spindle washer from the spindle (Fig. 5) and set aside.
7. Wipe off outer bearing (Fig. 5) and determine if the markings are correct (Figs. 6 and 7).
8. If the bearing marking is 14125A (Fig. 6), the axle will need to be replaced.
9. If the bearing marking is the correct 02475 (Fig. 7), replace the spindle washer.
10. Replace castle nut and torque to 50 ft-lbs.
NOTE: Rotate hub during the tightening process.
11. Loosen castle nut to back off torque, and then finger tighten castle nut until snug.
12. Insert new cotter pin. If cotter pin does not line up with the hole, back off castle nut slightly until pin
can be inserted.
13. Bend over cotter pin to lock castle nut in place. Nut should be free to move with only the cotter pin
keeping it in place.
14. Using a2 1/2" socket, replace dust cap and torque to 25-30 ft.-Ibs.
15. Replace wheel and hand tighten lug nuts before using impact wrench to tighten in a star-shaped
pattern. Torque lug nuts to recommended torque value.

Submission/Contact Information
Company officials or the dealer must inspect the involved component as outlined on the attached
instructions and submit a claim documenting the inspection and verification of no issue found for payment
of the labor charges. If an issue is found, the repair must be completed for payment of the labor charges.

Lippert does not require advance contact or a pre-authorization to be obtained. The labor allowance for
the inspection is 0.3 hours and the labor allowance for the repair is 1.0 hours with the original bearing not
required to be returned.
A photo of the incorrect bearing and a clear photo of the VIN tag and the axle serial number label (Fig. 8)
must be submitted once inspection or repair is completed. Lippert will coordinate shipments of any needed
repair kits or product with the RV manufacturer.
