SITUATION
When driving over rough surfaces, a low-frequency rattling noise can be heard inside the vehicle's cabin.
The noise typically sounds as though it is coming from the front right footwell area.
Example: Please, see attached video V61 02 24.

CAUSE
The washer fluid reservoir mounting hook has too much play, which allows the reservoir to vibrate and
cause a noise.

CORRECTION
Replace the washer fluid reservoir.

PROCEDURE
In the event of a customer complaint, proceed as follows,

1. Inspect the washer fluid reservoir for play or
looseness, check the mounting points or areas
where contact may occur.
2. Confirm the source of the noise is the washer
fluid reservoir.
3. If the noise is determined to originate from the
reservoir, replace it with the improved part listed
below.
4. Follow the repair instructions “Replacing the
washer fluid reservoir for the washer system
61 71 .

5. After installing the improved washer fluid reservoir, check for leaks, and test functionality of the system.
Note: Washer fluids that contain a silicone additive can lead to washing system damage; they are
normally a color other than blue. Only use BMW’s approved Windshield Washer Pre-mixed fluid,
diluted concentrate, or an equivalent. Please refer to the owner’s manual for more information. The
washer fluid mixture ratio is regulated by the U.S. EPA and by many individual US states; do not
exceed the allowable washer fluid “dilution/ratio limits” that apply to the state, or the specific US
area in which the vehicle is being operated.

PARTS INFORMATION
To determine the part number that applies to the specific vehicle being repaired, enter the VIN/chassis
number into either ETK or AIR which will consider the specific equipment and/or options that are fitted to the
vehicle.
Dependent on the optional equipment, the function and number of washer pumps can vary. Choose the
washer fluid reservoir for your specific equipment and/or options fitted to the vehicle.

BMW Group’s AIR Application Resource for Flat Rate Labor Operation Codes
To obtain the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance information from the BMW Group AIR application
resource, start by entering the Chassis Number (last seven (7) characters of the VIN), and click on the
“Search” icon. If the “Vehicle Selection” window displays two or more model possible vehicle choices, select
the applicable Model, or enter the full VIN (17 characters) instead to proceed. Click on the “Flat Rate Units”
button and enter a flat rate labor operation code number “without spaces” in the field to the right, click on the
“Search” icon to display the corresponding listing of “Flat rate unit group details” that are available and their
corresponding FRU allowances.
