REASON FOR REVISION:
Added content to depict driveline conversions for six additional VINs. Content includes
parts list, two new graphics, and 17 additional steps.
DEFECT DESCRIPTION:
Certain International® MVTM Series trucks may have a driveshaft that is too short and may
come out of the slip yoke.
ELIGIBILITY:
This procedure applies ONLY to vehicles marked in the International® Service PortalSM
with FSC 24110. Also complete any other open campaigns listed on the Service Portal at
this time.

WORK INSTRUCTIONS
GOVERNMENT REGULATION: Engine fluid (oil, fuel, and coolant) may be a hazard to
human health and the environment. Handle all fluid and other contaminated materials
(such as filters and rags) in accordance with applicable regulations. Recycle or dispose of
engine fluids, filters, and other contaminated materials according to applicable
regulations.
WARNING! To prevent personal injury, and / or death, or damage to property, park vehicle
on hard flat surface, turn the engine off, set the parking brake, and install wheel chocks to
prevent the vehicle from moving in both directions.
WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, always wear safe eye protection
when performing vehicle maintenance.
WARNING! To prevent personal injury, and / or death, or damage to property, keep flames
or sparks away from vehicle and do not smoke while servicing the vehicle’s batteries.
Batteries expel explosive gases.
WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, or damage to property, remove the
ground cable from the negative terminal of the battery before disconnecting any electrical
components. Always connect the ground cable last.
WARNING! To prevent personal injury and / or death, or damage to property, use a
suitable lifting device when servicing driveline.

1. Park vehicle on a dry and level surface.
2. Shift transmission to Park or Neutral and set parking brake.
3. Turn ignition to Key OFF position.
4. Install wheel chocks.
5. Obtain access to the driveline.
NOTE: Ensure that bell housing bolts are tightened to 38–43 lb-ft (51–58 N⋅m).
NOTE: If there is a crack in the transmission housing and / or bell housing, open a
technical service case to resolve the issue.
6. Inspect transmission housing for cracks, especially around bell housing.
7. Remove U-joint straps from transmission yoke.

8. Using a pry bar if U-joint will not come out of yoke, gently pry U-joint out of its seat to
aid in removal.
9. Remove and lower driveshaft from transmission yoke onto lifting device.
10. Remove U-joint straps from differential yoke and lower driveshaft onto lifting device.
11. Lower lifting device and remove driveshaft from under vehicle.

12. Remove rear differential yoke nut (Figure 1, Item 2) and remove yoke (Figure 1, Item
1) and discard both.

13. Remove retaining bolt (Figure 2, Item 2) and retaining plate (Figure 2, Item 1). Set
aside retaining plate for later use.
14. Carefully remove transmission yoke (Figure 2, Item 3). Discard transmission yoke,
retaining bolt, and O-rings.

NOTE: Lubricate new O-ring with lightweight oil before installation.
15. Install new O-ring onto yoke plate (Figure 3, Item 1). Insert yoke plate bolt through
yoke plate. Install new O-ring onto yoke plate bolt (Figure 3, Item 2) over threaded end
of bolt, ensuring that O-ring presses against plate.
16. Install new transmission yoke onto transmission.
17. Using torque wrench, tighten yoke plate bolt to 52–63 lb-ft (70–85 N⋅m).

18. Remove and discard differential yoke and nut.

Note: A torque multiplier is recommended. If there is difficulty achieving correct
torque, torque the nut with the vehicle’s wheels on the ground and with the axle
shaft installed.
19. Install new differential yoke and nut. Using torque wrench and torque multiplier,
tighten nut to 786–966 lb-ft (1,066–1,310 N⋅m).
20. Using a suitable lifting device, install driveshaft into place with slip yoke facing
transmission.

21. Install U-joint straps into place. Using a torque wrench, tighten bolts to 45 lb-ft (61
N∙m) on both transmission yoke and differential yoke.
22. Apply BLACK rust preventive paint to driveshaft and yokes to prevent oxidation.
23. Once painted surface is dry, apply grease to both U-joint zerk fittings.
NOTE: Follow the instructions below if you have one of the six VINs noted in the
VIN list in Table 3.

CAUTION! To prevent damage to property, before removing U-bolt, ensure the axle and
spring seat are supported properly with jack stands.

24. Access rear axles.
25. Remove U-bolt (Figure 5, Item 1) and U-bolt nuts and washers (Figure 5, Item 5), and
discard.
26. Remove and discard torque rod (Figure 6, Item 4), torque rod seat (Figure 6, Item 2),
lower spring seat (Figure 6, Item 3), and plate (Figure 6, Item 1).
27. Install upper 2.00-degree plate (Figure 5, Item 7).
28. Install spacer (Figure 5, Item 4) on top of 2.00-degree upper plate (Figure 5, Item 7).
NOTE: The original bolts fastening the torque rod to the forward spring bracket
must be reused.

29. Place radius leaf (Figure 5, Item 8) and, using original bolts from torque rod mount,
install bolts loosely (these bolts will be torqued in a later step).
30. Install Z-spring (Figure 5, Item 3) and install air suspension bag. Refer to service
manual for proper air suspension bag installation.
31. Install upper U-bolt plate (Figure 5, Item 2) and install new U-bolts (Figure 5, Item 1)
on axle.
32. Install 4.00-degree lower plate (Figure 5, Item 6).
33. Install new U-bolt nuts and washers (Figure 5, Item 5).
34. Using torque wrench, tighten nuts to 370−400 lb-ft (500−542 N∙m).
NOTE: U-bolt nuts need to be retighten after 1000 miles of service.
35. Tighten radius leaf (Figure 5, Item 8) bolts to 158 lb-ft (214 N∙m).
36. Perform Steps 25 through 35 on other side of vehicle.
37. Verify all components are installed and torqued properly.
38. Remove wheel chocks.

WARRANTY CLAIMS
Warranty claim expense is to be charged to Warranty. Claims are to be submitted in the
normal manner, making reference to Field Service Campaign 24110.
Section 7 of the Warranty Policy and Procedures Manual contains further information
related to the submission and processing of AFC / Recall claims.
As with all claim submissions, items acquired locally must be submitted in the “Other
Charges” tab. The cost of any bulk items (such as a bag of cable tie straps, roll of wire,
barrel of oil, or tube of silicone) should be prorated for the cost of the individual pieces /
amount used during each repair.
To make sure this important improvement is made in a timely manner, all claims for
FSC 24110 activity must be submitted by 5 November 2025 or within the normal warranty
period for the component, if after 5 November 2025.
