Subject: GHG14 DETROIT™ DD13® Fire Truck and Coach Reprogramming
Models Affected: GHG14 DD13 engine models 471933 and 471934

General Information
Daimler Trucks North America LLC, on behalf of its DETROITTM Powertrain Division, is initiating Emission Recall
D23R7 to modify the vehicles mentioned above.
Certain DETROITTM Model Year 2013 to 2015 GHG14 DD13® engines that are registered in California will require
reprogramming to a minimum of the MCM software version, and fuel map version listed below:

MCM Software Version 4.7.0.0 with fuel map ending in ZGS 006

ACM Software Version 5.57.1.0 for Pierce
ACM Software Version 5.57.0.0 with fuel map ending in ZGS 006* for coach

* MCI vehicles with 1550 ft-lb rating ONLY require ZGS 005.
Updated programming became available in December 2024 for GHG14 DD13® engines in certain coach and fire
truck applications. Vehicles included in this Emission Recall will need the MCM reprogrammed. The ACM and CPC
may need reprogramming for compatibility.
The new fuel map was developed to reduce base NOx emissions for the GHG14 DD13® Engine.
There are approximately 237 engines involved.
Note that some engines may already be reprogrammed. These engines will be excluded from this Emission Recall.
The currently available software levels may be higher than the minimum levels shown above.

Additional Repairs
Dealers must complete all outstanding Recall, and Field Service campaigns prior to the sale or delivery of a vehicle.
A Dealer will be liable for any progressive damage that results from its failure to complete campaigns before sale or
delivery of a vehicle. Owners may be liable for any progressive damage that results from failure to complete
campaigns within a reasonable time after receiving notification. Please contact Warranty Campaigns for consideration
of additional charges prior to performing the repair.

Work Instructions
Please refer to the attached work instructions. Prior to performing the recall campaign, check the vehicle for a
completion sticker (Form WAR260).

Subject: GHG14 DETROIT™ DD13® Fire Truck and Coach Reprogramming
This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of California emission standards, and regulations.
Engines registered in California will require reprogramming to a minimum software and fuel map version.
Your vehicle or engine may be releasing air pollutants, which exceed California standards. Failure to receive the
repair may cause the vehicle to fail a vehicle inspection when such tests are required under state law. There is no
adverse effect to performance, fuel economy, nor durability of the vehicle or engine. These engines cannot be
operated in the State of California if the recall is not completed once available.
Daimler Trucks North America LLC, on behalf of its DETROITTM Powertrain Division, is initiating Emission Recall
D23R7 to modify GHG14 DD13 powertrain software in certain coach, and fire truck applications. The recall will be
performed at the expense of the manufacturer.
Note that vehicles already reprogrammed will be excluded from this recall. Records indicate that your vehicle has
one of the affected engines. Instructions for this Emission Recall have been sent to your local Detroit Diesel
Authorized Repair Facility. The labor time required to perform this update is approximately 0.7 hours.
Please contact a Detroit Diesel Authorized Repair Facility to arrange to have the Emission Recall performed. To
locate an authorized facility, search online at https://demanddetroit.com/find-a-dealer/
If you reside in the State of California, a Proof of Correction form will be provided to you by the service facility upon
completion of the repair. Please retain it as it may be requested by the DMV in order to register your vehicle.
Please understand that the California DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) will reject vehicle registration renewals if
this emission related recall has not been completed.
In order to ensure you full protection under the emission warranty provisions, it is recommended that you have your
engine serviced as soon as possible. Failure to do so could be determined as a lack of proper maintenance of your
engine.
You may be liable for any progressive damage that results from failure to complete campaigns within a reasonable
time after receiving notification.
If you do not own the vehicle that corresponds to the identification number(s), which appears on the Recall
Notification card, please return the notification to the Warranty Department, Attention Campaign Coordinator, with
any information you can furnish that will assist us in locating the present owner.
If you have paid to have this recall condition corrected prior to this notice, you may be eligible to receive
reimbursement. Requests for reimbursement may include parts, and labor. Reimbursement may be limited to the
amount the repair would have cost if completed by a Detroit Authorized Repair Facility.

The following documentation must be presented to your dealer for consideration of reimbursement. Please provide
original or clear copies of all receipts, invoices, and repair orders that show:







The name, and address of the person who paid for the repair.
The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of the vehicle that was repaired.
What problem occurred, what repair was done, when the repair was done.
Who repaired the vehicle.
The total cost of the repair expense that is being claimed.
Proof of payment for the repair (such as the front and back of a cancelled check or a credit card receipt).

Reimbursement will be made by check from your DTNA dealer. Please speak with your DTNA authorized dealer
concerning this matter.
For those customers who had this issue, and paid for the service prior to this recall, they can send in their receipts to
Detroit Diesel Corporation for reimbursement consideration.

6. Is the Software Version for any module less than the minimum Software Version listed in step 5?
a) Yes, Software Version is less than the required Software Version, go to step 8.
b) No, Software Version is equal to or higher than the required Software Version, go to
step 7.

7. Is the Fuel Map ZGS for any module less than the minimum Fuel Map ZGS listed in step 5.
a) Yes, Fuel Map ZGS is less than the required Fuel Map ZGS, go to step 8.
b) No, Software Version AND Fuel Map ZGS are equal to or higher than the requirements
listed in step 5. No programming is necessary. Go to step 13.

8. Select the ‘Program Device’ option along the left side of the DiagnosticLink® screen.
9. Select the ‘Add request’ button in the lower left corner of the DiagnosticLink® screen and enter the engine
serial number. Then click the ‘Connect to Server’ button in the bottom left corner of the DiagnosticLink®
screen to download. Select ‘Connected unit,’ then select ‘Next.’ See Figures 2 through 4.

10. Program the MCM, ACM, and CPC based on the above inspection results, and engine serial number
listing included with this Emission Recall.

11. When programming is complete, click the ‘Finish’ button, and perform the following to allow the modules
to synchronize with each other:
 Disconnect the USB Link at the 9-pin vehicle diagnostic port.
 Turn the vehicle ignition OFF and wait one minute.
 Turn the vehicle ignition ON and wait one minute.
 Turn the vehicle ignition OFF and wait one minute.
 Turn the vehicle ignition ON and wait one minute.
 Reconnect the USB Link, reconnect DiagnosticLink® to the MCM, ACM and CPC, and
confirm the proper software.

12. Update the server by clicking the ‘Connect to Server’ button in the bottom left corner of the
DiagnosticLink® screen.

13. Dealer to install campaign completion sticker(s) per the instructions below, and complete and hand to
the customer the Vehicle Emission Recall – Proof of Correction form.

14. Repairs are complete.
