WRE7 - Re-Programming Porsche Rear Seat Entertainment (Workshop Campaign)

Porsche Rear Seat Entertainment (M-no. 9WY)

Cause:

On the affected vehicles with Porsche Rear Seat Entertainment (M-no. 9WY), there is the possibility that there will be repeated sleep-wake cycles in a short sequence due to the GSM service.
As a result, the maximum number of write cycles on the internal memory is exceeded and the Porsche
Rear Seat Entertainment system can no longer be started.

Action:

Re-program Porsche Rear Seat Entertainment display unit with an updated data record.

The minimum programming requirement is the PIWIS Tester software release 42.800.072 (or higher)

Required parts
Information
The buffer memory or PRSE is deleted using a USB memory stick. The corresponding Autorunner script
must be downloaded via the PiUS (Porsche integrated Update Service) software tool and uploaded to a
blank USB memory stick with a memory capacity of 32 GB.
Pay particular attention to the following:
•

A blank USB memory stick with a memory capacity of 32 GB must be used for the software.

•

The software available in PiUS must only be used with the corresponding technical information and
instructions.

•

The software listed may only be used for the action described here. Damage to the PCM control
unit or the PRSE cannot be ruled out if the software is used on other vehicles.

* Every Porsche Center responsible for looking after a vehicle affected by the campaign is provided with
one USB memory stick for programming.
Only one USB memory stick must therefore be ordered for every Porsche Center responsible for looking
after a vehicle affected by the campaign. This USB memory stick then remains available as a tool in the
relevant Porsche Center.

Prior to disconnecting the control unit, switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

The programming is described on one side as an example. The programming process for the other side
is identical.

Information
After updating the software, all connected devices (e.g. Porsche headphones, MP3 player) and the PCM,
if necessary, must be re-connected to the PRSE system in order to check that they are working correctly.
This involves first disconnecting and then re-connecting the Bluetooth connections.
If there are not yet any connected devices in the vehicle, inform the customer that the Bluetooth
devices must be re-connected after carrying out the campaign or provide any help and support the
customer needs for connecting new Bluetooth devices.

10 Place the driver’s key with the back facing down in

For programming to begin, the backup documentation must be initiated via the PIWIS Tester, but not

select “Cancel backup documentation”. The PCM then restarts again and PCM returns to
the normal user interface.

P90999 - PIWIS Tester 4 must now be disconnected from the vehicle.

Switch off the ignition.

12 Establish bus idle.
Information
The new PRSE software is now installed in the PCM, and the PCM initiates the PRSE software update
after a check.
Programming the PRSE cannot be initiated actively. The PCM system automatically initiated this.
One way to speed up the start of the software update is to establish the bus idle and then wake up
the vehicle again.
13 Switch on ignition and check on the PRSE display unit whether the programming process starts automatically within 5 minutes.
