This bulletin applies to the following vehicles equipped with a 5.7L V8
HEMI MDS VVT Engine (Sales Code EZH), Durango Pursuit Vehicle
(Sales Code AZ1), Special Service Group (Sales Code AHV) and
Engine Oil Cooler (Sales Code NHA).

CUSTOMER
SYMPTOM:

Customers may comment on one or more of the following:
● Vehicle overheats.
● Coolant overflow recovery bottle contains milky fluid.
● Coolant found leaking under the vehicle.
● Engine oil cooler is leaking.

This Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) has also been released as a Rapid Service Update (RSU) 24-164,
date of issue December 05, 2024. All applicable RSU VINs have been loaded. To verify this RSU service
action is applicable to the vehicle, use VIP or perform a VIN search in DealerCONNECT/Service Library.
All repairs are reimbursable within the provisions of warranty.
REPAIR SUMMARY:
This bulletin involves installing a coolant flow restrictor and possibly replacing the engine oil cooler.

DIAGNOSIS:
If a customer’s VIN is listed in VIP or your RSU VIN list, perform the repair. If any vehicle not on the VIN list
exhibits any of the symptoms listed above in the customer symptom section, perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Remove the radiator pressure cap.
WARNING!
Do not remove cylinder block drain plugs or loosen radiator draincock with system hot and under
pressure. Serious burns from coolant can occur.
2. Drain the coolant into a clean container. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in
DealerCONNECT/Service Library under: Service Info> 07 - Cooling / Standard Procedure/ Draining.
NOTE: DO NOT WASTE reusable coolant. If the solution is clean, drain the coolant into a clean
container for reuse.

4. Remove the hose clamp from the coolant hose Fig. 2.

5. Remove the coolant hose from the nipple.
6. Insert the coolant hose flow restrictor Fig. 3 into the coolant hose Fig. 4.

7. Attach the coolant hose back to the nipple.
8. Move the coolant hose clamp into its installed position on the coolant hose and tighten Fig. 2.
9. Is this a sold vehicle or a vehicle still in dealer inventory?
● SOLD with greater than 100 Miles >>> Proceed to Step 10.
● INVENTORY or less than 100 Miles >>> Proceed to Step 14.
10. Remove and DISCARD the engine oil filter from the engine oil cooler Fig. 5.

11. Replace the engine oil cooler Fig. 5. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in
DealerCONNECT/Service Library under: Service Info> 09 - Engine, 5.7L / Lubrication / Cooler and Lines,
Oil / Removal and Installation.
12. Lightly lubricate the NEW engine oil filter gasket with clean engine oil.
13. Install a NEW engine oil filter onto the engine oil cooler.
NOTE: When the oil filter gasket contacts the oil cooler sealing surface, hand tighten the oil filter
one half turn, or 180°
14. Install the front skid plate. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/Service
Library under: Service Info>13 - Frame and Bumpers / Under Body Protection / Plate, Skid, Front /
Installation.
15. Evacuate cooling system and add drained, clean coolant. Refer to the detailed service procedures
available in DealerCONNECT/Service Library under: Service Info> 07 - Cooling / Standard Procedure/
Cooling System Air Evacuation.
16. Pressure test cooling system check for leaks. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in
DealerCONNECT/Service Library under: Service Info> 07 - Cooling / Standard Procedure/ Cooling System
Leaks / Pressure Tester Method.
17. Start the vehicle and confirm there are no coolant leaks.
