The repair quality of covered vehicles is extremely important to Toyota. All dealership technicians
performing this SSC are required to successfully complete the most current version of the ELearning course “Safety Recall and Service Campaign Essentials”. To ensure that all vehicles have
the repair performed correctly; technicians performing this SSC repair are required to complete the
following course:

It is the dealership’s responsibility to select technicians that have completed the above courses to
perform this repair. Carefully review your resources, the technician skill level, and ability before
assigning technicians to this repair. It is important to consider technician days off and vacation
schedules to ensure there are properly trained technicians available to always perform this repair.

II. IDENTIFICATION OF AFFECTED VEHICLES
1.

CHECK VEHICLE FOR CAMPAIGN ELIGIBILITY
a) Compare the vehicle’s VIN to the VIN listed on the Repair Order to ensure they match.
b) Check the TIS Vehicle Inquiry System to confirm the VIN is involved in this Campaign, and that it has not
already been completed.
NOTICE:
TMNA warranty will not reimburse dealers for repairs completed on vehicles that are not affected or
were previously completed, even by another dealer.

V. BACKGROUND
Condition
The subject vehicles were manufactured with a grill shutter wire harness connector that contained an
incorrectly sized waterproof seal. The incorrect seal can cause water to enter the connector, potentially
causing the engine warning light to illuminate.

VI. GRILLE SHUTTER HARNESS INSPECTION
1. OPEN THE HOOD AND PROP IT OPEN WITH THE

HOLDER STAY LEVER

2. DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY

TERMINAL FROM THE BATTERY.

3. IDENTIFY AND RELEASE THE 4 PUSH CLIPS,

THEN REMOVE NO. 2 AIR CLEANER INLET

4. IDENTIFY AND RELEASE THE 8 PUSH CLIPS,

THEN REMOVE NO. 1 RADIATOR AIR GUIDE

5. IDENTIFY AND UNPLUG THE GRILLE SHUTTER

CONNECTOR (LOCATED ON THE PASSENGER
SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT)

6. RELEASE THE HARNESS FROM THE 4

RETAINERS ON THE TOP OF THE GRILL
SHUTTER

7. IDENTIFY THE HARNESS WITHIN THE CENTRAL

RIB OF THE GRILLE SHUTTER (LOCATED IN THE
CENTER OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT)

8. RELEASE THE HARNESS FROM THE 2

REMAINING RETAINERS WITHIN THE CENTRAL
RIB OF THE GRILLE SHUTTER

9. INSERT A FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER THROUGH THE SIDE OPENING OF THE CENTRAL RIB,

THEN RELEASE THE CONNECTOR AND REMOVE THE HARNESS

10. INSPECT THE HARNESS AND GRILLE SHUTTER

a. LOOK FOR CORROSION INSIDE THE HARNESS
AND ACTUATOR (SEE EXAMPLES BELOW)

VIII. REPLACE GRILLE SHUTTER

1. IF EQUIPPED, REMOVE ENGINE NO.4 HARNESS (LOCATED ON THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE
ENGINE COMPARTMENT)
2. REMOVE FRONT BUMPER ASSEMBLY

4. INSTALL NEW GRILL SHUTTER ASSEMBLY
a. INSTALL AND TORQUE THE 6 BOLTS TO
3 N∙m (27 in∙lbf)

5. REINSTALL FRONT BUMPER ASSEMBLY

6. IF EQUIPPED, REINSTALL THE ENGINE NO.4

Emissions Repair Procedures for California Dealers
As this Special Service Campaign includes emission related parts, California dealers are requested to fill out the
Vehicle Emissions Recall – Proof of Correction form and affix an Authorized Modification Label to the vehicle after
repairs have been completed.
The vehicle owner may require the Proof of Correction form for vehicle
registration renewal. It is important to note that the forms are an
official state document and blank forms must be secured to prevent
misuse.
Please complete the form and provide it to the owner. The first noncompleted VINs will be submitted to the California state DMV by early
[June 2025]. If the vehicle owner’s warranty claim will not be processed
and paid prior to this date, please be sure to complete a form and provide
it to a California owner.
Install the Authorized Modifications Label after the repairs have
been completed. Using a permanent marker, fill out the label and
affix it to the location under the hood as indicted.
Form booklets and Authorization Labels can be ordered from the
MDC (Booklet material number 00410-92007, Label material
number 00451-00001-LBL ).

IX. RETURN VEHICLE TO ORIGINAL CONDITION

B. CAMPAIGN PARTS DISPOSAL
As required by Federal Regulations, please make sure all campaign parts (original parts) removed from the
vehicle are disposed of in a manner in which they will not be reused, unless requested for parts recovery
return.
