Introduction

Mack trucks has determined that certain GR model trucks built with a Cummins Natural Gas

engine may have the fuel filter base mounted incorrectly. The incorrect mounting causes the

plumbing of the filter base to be orientated backwards. Please follow the repair instructions to

inspect the fuel filter base mounting and correct if needed.

Park the vehicle on a level surface.

Apply the parking brake.

Place the gear lever in neutral.

Install wheel chocks.
5. Locate the frame mounted fuel filter.

6. Inspect the fuel filter base to ensure it is mounted correctly. Correct orientation is

determined by the filter base mounting bolts. If the bolt pattern is pointing towards the

frame the mounting is incorrect (Picture 2), if pointing out it is correct (Picture 1).

7. If the mounting is correct the truck can be released. If incorrect proceed to next step to

replace mounting bracket.

8. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
9. Turn off the main fuel supply shut off. Start the engine and allow it to idle until it runs

out of fuel and shuts down.

10. Drain the fuel filter.
11. Remove the fuel filter and discard.

12. Remove the fuel line from the filter base.
13. Remove the 3 fuel filter base mounting bolts and set the base aside.

14. Remove the fuel filter base mount bracket by cutting the two huck fasteners and

removing the one bolt and nut.
15. Install the new bracket PN-24731858 using the new bolts PN-984853 and nuts PN990943.

16. Install the filter base to the new bracket reusing the old hardware.

17. Swap the fuel line fittings if needed.

18. Install the fuel lines.

19. Install the new fuel filter.

20. Turn on the main gas valve.

21. Use soapy water to check the system for leaks.

22. Connect the negative battery cable.
23. Test run the engine.

24. If no leaks are found and the engine runs with no issues, the truck can be released.
