Introduction
Volvo Trucks has determined that certain VNL model vehicles built with the 13L engine could
experience injector failure. Inconsistent coating of internal components could lead to premature
injector wear. Follow the instructions below to replace the injectors with new ones.
It is not necessary to take the truck out of service immediately for this campaign, but it should be
completed at the next convenient opportunity. This repair, however, must be performed before
the truck is sold to any customer.

Fuel Injector Update

When replacing injectors in the All-New Volvo VNL there are several important things to be cautious
of to ensure a proper repair.
Decommission/Commissioning:

It’s important to note that unhooking the battery is required for the injector
replacement.

Cleanliness:

It is important to keep your working environment as clean as possible.
When injectors are not in their packaging, they should be installed in the protective
sleeve (998249) to prevent contamination.
The engine on the all new VNL sits further under the front cowl. With this design, there
is a greater risk of dirt and debris falling into the engine when valve cover is removed.
The Sealing Plug (9998251) should be installed in the cylinder head anytime an injector
is removed.
Install the sealing rings (9998250) in the head.
Sleeve (9998580) should be installed while the cleaning the cylinder head for the
injector cup install.
Clean lint free rags must be used.
Do not prefill the fuel filter.

Handling of the injectors:

The injector tips are susceptible to damage if handled incorrectly.
When handling injectors, they should be placed in a protective sleeve until they are
being installed in the engine to prevent damage.
Take precaution not to bump the injector tip when handling or installing the injector.

Fuel Filter:

When replacing the fuel filter, do not prefill the fuel filter canister before installing.
Torque the filter canister following the torque value on the bottom of the canister (Do
not overtighten as damage can occur).
