SUBJECT:

Description: Certain 2023MY Kona (OS) vehicles may have a detached pad between the rear spoiler
and roof panel due to an error in the assembly process. Follow the procedure outlined in this TSB to
replace the pad on the rear spoiler.

NOTE 2: If a part is found in need of replacement while performing this campaign and the affected part
is still under warranty, submit a separate claim using the same repair order. If the affected part is out
of warranty, submit a Prior Approval request for goodwill consideration prior to performing the work.
NOTE 3: This TSB includes Repair validation photos. Op times include VIN, Mileage and Repair
validation photos as outlined in the Digital Documentation Policy.
NOTE 4: The incident parts are subject to callback through the normal Warranty Technical Center
(WTC) parts return process. Claim is subject to debit if the part is not returned.
NOTE 5: Dealer will be reimbursed $0.75 through sublet under the op code for any necessary clips
($0.25) requiring replacement and for Goo Gone or similar adhesive remover ($0.50).

Record the customer’s radio presets, then
disconnect the negative (–) battery terminal to
prevent an electrical short during the
procedure (disconnecting a connector).

Remove the tailgate upper trim (A).
Refer to Shop Manual:

NOTICE
Ensure to use proper trim tools to
prevent any damage to the vehicle.
Be careful not to damage any clips.
Replace any broke clips (P/N: 8231533020).

Disconnect the connector for the center high
mounted stop lamp (B).
Refer to Shop Manual:

Be careful not to drop the mounting
nuts into the spaces in the tailgate. It
is recommended to use a magnetic
socket to aid in removing/attaching
the mounting nuts.

Pop out the clips on both sides of the spoiler
trim and remove the spoiler (F).

Information

To aid in removal of the spoiler, place
a rag or similar over the striker and
close the liftgate (to prevent the
liftgate from latching with
disconnected battery).

Ensure none of the noise reduction
pads have been lost during removal of
the spoiler from the liftgate.

Remove the old pad from the spoiler.

NOTICE
Before working on the spoiler, be sure
to carefully place it on a level surface
with clean rags and/or towels to
prevent scratching the spoiler's paint.

Remove the old pad adhesive using an
appropriate adhesive remover such as Goo
Gone, etc. Use an adequate amount of
adhesive remover to coat the old spoiler pad.

Information

It is recommended using a plastic
blade or other non marring tool to
assist in removal of the old adhesive.

After removing the old adhesive, ensure the
area where the new pad will be replaced is
clean and prepared for proper adhesion. Wipe
the area with rubbing alcohol and a clean rag.

Information

Verify the area where the new pad will
be installed is properly cleaned before
attaching it to the spoiler.

STUI
Using STUI, take a photo of the spoiler
with the old pad removed and with the
last 6 digits of the VIN and the date of
repair on a piece of paper.
Upload the photo to STUI.

12.

Attach the new pad to the spoiler in the same
location of the previous pad, butting the pad up
against the channel/guideline.

NOTICE
Use caution to not stretch out the pad
when applying it to the spoiler.
Ensure the pad is applied flush to
plastic guideline on the spoiler.

13.

Cut any excess pad off so that the pad is flush
to the end of the channel on the spoiler.

14.

Reinstall all removed parts in reverse order of
removal. Confirm spoiler is flush to the roof
panel surface and no appearance concerns
are noticed.

Reconnect the negative (–) battery terminal.
