Issue Summary
Symptom:
Low Power
Root Cause:
OEM Load Based Speed Control is password protected.
When OEM Load Based Speed Control is enabled, the engine will not use the RPM Breakpoint
of Load Based Speed Control if it is higher than the RPM Breakpoint of OEM Load Based
Speed Control.
If ECM calibration was recently updated:

New Load Based Speed Control strategy change in the ECM calibration allows Load
Based Speed Control breaking point value to override OEM Load Based Speed Control
breakpoint value even when Load Based Speed Control is shown as disabled. Logic will
always consider the lowest value between both Load Based Speed Control and OEM
Load Based Speed Control when OEM Load Based Speed Control is enabled causing a
limitation in engine speed.
Verification
Verify unable to meet Load Based Speed Control RPM Breakpoint.
Use the recommended Cummins
® electronic service tool or equivalent to verify OEM Load
Based Speed Control is enabled.
If ECM calibration was recently updated, verify:
Units with manual transmission powered by an X15
engine.
Load Based Speed Control is disabled.
Engine Speed is being limited at Load Based Speed Control breaking point RPM value.
Resolution
Use the recommended Cummins
® electronic service tool or equivalent to find the current
ECM code and revision number in the ECM.
Compare the ECM code and revision number in the ECM to the calibration revision listed in
the ECM calibration revision history for applicable changes. If a calibration update for this
issue is available, the ECM calibration revision must be that revision or higher.
If ECM calibration is or was recently updated:
Verify that Load Based Speed Control RPM Breakpoint matches the RPM Breakpoint of
OEM Load Based Speed Control (See Figure 1). Both must have same Breakpoint value.
If Load Based Speed Control is disabled, Load Based Speed Control must be
enabled to view or edit RPM Breakpoint. This is the only value to edit since OEM
Load Based Speed Control is OEM password protected.
