Condition

Some customers may comment of a clunk noise coming from the front end of the vehicle.

Cause

This condition may be caused by the stabilizer bar retaining nut has come loose from
weld internally in the frame.

Correction

Replace only the affected bolt with a retaining bolt, spacer, and nut assembly. Refer to
the Service Procedure.

under this bulletin, including but not limited to
handling, deploying, preparing, classifying,
packaging, marking, labeling, and shipping
dangerous goods. In the event of a conflict
between the procedures set forth in this bulletin
and the laws that apply to your dealership, you
must follow those applicable laws.

Service Procedure
1. Remove the bolts the secure the stabilizer bar to
the frame.
2. At the affected frame access hole, inspect area
inside frame and clean area of any debris.
− It may be necessary to cut off the affected bolt if
it has not entirely separated from the retaining
nut.
3. Ensure the retaining bolt/nut that has broken loose,
is removed from the frame.

7. Utilizing a flexible head magnet, guide the bolt/
spacer assembly back through the frame access
hole and through the affected stabilizer bolt hole.

4. Utilizing heatshrink tubing, feed the tubing through
the side access hole in the frame through to the
affected stabilizer bolt hole.
5. Install the spacer onto the new bolt.
6. Attach the tubing to approximately 3 to 4 threads of
the bolt/spacer assembly.
− Ensure the heatshrink tubing is sufficiently
secure to the bolt.

Note: Once torqued to specification, the bolt/spacer
should sit flush to the frame as shown in the graphic
above.
8. Install the stabilizing bar using care not to push the
bolt back into the frame.
− Utilize a breaker bar and socket to hold bolt
head inside frame rail from rotating.
9. If reusing the original bolts, loosen the adhesive
using a metal pick or a similar tool before
proceeding. Prepare the threaded components
using the following steps:

9.1.

Remove any loose cured adhesive from the
external threads of the components using a
lint free cloth.

9.2.

Thread the cleaned components into the
internal mating threads and remove to
loosen trapped cured adhesive.

9.3.

Apply thread locking adhesive to the
external threads of the components. Refer to
Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers.

9.4.

Ensure there are no gaps in the thread
locking adhesive once applied to the
component.
10. Torque the sway bar clamp fasteners.
