TECHNICAL INSTRUCTIONS

SPECIAL SERVICE CAMPAIGN 24TC03

DATA COMMUNICATON MODULE (DCM) UPDATE

CERTAIN 2023 COROLLA, COROLLA CROSS, COROLLA HATCHBACK,
COROLLA HV, GR COROLLA, CROWN, HIGHLANDER, HIGHLANDER HV,
PRIUS, RAV4, RAV4 PRIME, RAV4 HV, VENZA HV

The repair quality of covered vehicles is extremely important to Toyota. All dealership technicians
performing this recall are required to successfully complete the most current version of the E-Learning
course “Safety Recall and Service Campaign Essentials”. To ensure that all vehicles have the repair
performed correctly; technicians performing this repair are required to currently have completed all the
following courses:
-TIC 206A – Electrical Repair 1
It is the dealership’s responsibility to select technicians who have completed the above courses to
perform this repair. Carefully review your resources, the technician's skill level, and ability before
assigning technicians to this repair. It is important to consider technician days off and vacation
schedules to ensure there are properly trained technicians available to always perform this repair.

II. IDENTIFICATION OF AFFECTED VEHICLES
1. CHECK VEHICLE FOR CAMPAIGN ELIGIBILITY
a. Compare the vehicle's VIN to the VIN listed on the Repair Order to ensure they match.
b. Check the TIS Vehicle Inquiry System to confirm the VIN is involved in this Campaign, and that it has not
already been completed.
NOTICE: TMNA warranty will not reimburse dealers for repairs completed on vehicles that are not
affected or were previously completed, even by another dealer.

IV. BACKGROUND
Certain 2023 model year Corolla, Corolla Cross, Corolla Hatchback, Corolla HV, GR Corolla, Crown,
Highlander, Highlander HV, Prius, RAV4, RAV4 HV, RAV4 Prime, and Venza HV vehicles with DCM (Data
Communication Module) firmware version earlier than:

or
LG-N310cc4J4J-0I LG-N310dd8A8A-0I LG-N310ffASAS-01 LG-N310ggCACA-0I LG-N310ii2M2M-0I
DCM with LG-N210 or LG-N310 firmware versions may not have activated properly during vehicle delivery.
This results in all connected services becoming inoperative, including Safety Connect features such as the SOS
emergency calling feature.
The DCM firmware has been updated. Follow the DCM Firmware Update Procedure in this bulletin to address
this condition.

V.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

1. MOVE THE VEHICLE TO AN AREA WITH A KNOWN GOOD DCM SIGNAL RECEPTION.
a. This OTA update will occur via cellular service. Therefore, the vehicle will need to be safely parked outside
with a clear unobstructed view of the sky for this update.
b. Ensure the customer has an active account BEFORE beginning this process.
c. If the customer has waived telematics services, an account may need to be temporarily created to perform
this update.
STABILIZE THE POWER TO THE PERSONAL COMPUTER
SIDE

a)

Be sure to connect the personal computer to an external AC power
supply.

NOTICE:
The ECU could be damaged if the battery voltage of the computer
drops while reprogramming.
b)

Turn off the screen saver and power saving mode of the personal
computer so that the power to the hard disk is kept supplied.

NOTICE:
If the screen saver or power saving mode launches while
reprogramming, the communication may be disconnected,
resulting in damage to the ECU.

c)

DO NOT block the ventilation opening for the cooling fan of the
personal computer.

NOTICE:
If the ventilation opening for the cooling fan is blocked with a
sheet cover or similar, the computer may become overheated,
causing the computer to shut down.
A shutdown will cause all reprogramming communication to stop,
potentially resulting in damage to the ECU.

VI.

WORK PROCEDURE
1. PERFORM HEALTH CHECK
a. Using a GTS+, check and clear all DTCs.
If any hybrid DTCs are found that indicate a safety
risk at performing this repair, do not proceed until
they have been resolved.
NOTICE: This Service Campaign covers only the issue, as detailed
in these instructions. It does not cover the diagnosis or
replacement of any other parts on the vehicle, including the HEV
system.

2. VERIFY THE CURRENT FIRMWARE VERSION
a. Refer to TIS – Body Electrical – Telematics – Data List:

b. Is the firmware version up to date?
•

YES: This campaign is complete.

•

NO: Continue to step 3.

3. PERFORM THE DCM FIRMWARE UPDATE UTILITY
a. Refer to TIS – Body Electrical – Telematics – Utility.

b. Click on “Next” when the DCM firmware update screen
appears.

c. Select “Start the firmware update” and then click on “Next”
when the item selection screen appears.

d. Click on “Next” when the current firmware part number screen
appears.
NOTE: If the screen corresponding screen does NOT appear and
an error message displays, begin the Firmware Update
Procedure again from step 3. The battery reset MUST be
performed again.

e. Use the battery diagnostic tool to maintain battery voltage.
NOTE:
• The battery diagnostic tool MUST be used in Power
Supply Mode to maintain battery voltage at 13.5 V while
flash reprogramming the vehicle.
• For details on how to use the battery diagnostic station,
refer to the DCA-8000 Instruction Manual located at TIS –
Diagnostics – Tools & Equipment – Battery Diagnostics.

f. The firmware update will begin. Do NOT turn the vehicle OFF
during this time.
NOTE:
•
Do NOT press Exit until the update process has been
completed.
•
During the update process, the green and red LEDs will
both be ON and will reset several times resulting in the
LEDs being temporarily OFF during the process. The
download process will take about 5 – 10 minutes.

g. The three conditions below will indicate that the firmware
update process is complete:
•

The green LED will stay ON.

•

The update complete message will appear on
Techstream.

•

The service mode message will appear on the
display screen.

5. VERIFY THE SOS BUTTON OPERATION
a. Press SOS button and a visual indicator on the head unit will display “Roadside
Assistance… Connecting” along with a Voice Prompt “Connecting
to Safety Connect Roadside Assistance”.
b. Once this occurs, press SOS button again or the “End Call” icon on the
head unit.
c. No further action is necessary, verification is complete.

6. PERFORM HEALTH CHECK
a. Using GTS+, check and clear all DTCs.

NOTICE: This Service Campaign covers only the issue, as detailed
in these instructions. It does not cover the diagnosis or
replacement of any other parts on the vehicle, including the HEV
system.

- After the OTA update has been completed, confirm software version has been updated.
